C H A P T E R F I V E || SHOO LITTLE BIRDY
"You should find out why he did it, ya know," Lily said my idly as we ate lunch in the cafeteria.
"What?" I asked, straining my ears to hear what she said. The jocks were all laughing about something with the cheerleaders.
Even Connor. Connor. He looked so beautiful, laughing with his friends, flashing pearly white teeth and dimples. But Miranda was there too, flipping her hair over her shoulder and smiling seductively at him. It hurt my heart to see her there, smiling at him but the worst thing was that he was smiling back.
"Hello? Anybody there?" Lily snapped her fingers in front of my face impatiently and I shook my head to clear it.
"Umm yeah," I said sheepishly and she rolled her eyes.
"I said you should ask him why he did it," she said.
"Ask who what?"
"Connor. Ask Connor why he dumped you."
"Why? Its over," I replied, drumming my fingers on the table nervously. I didn't want to talk about Connor. It was till a very painful subject for me.
"Yeah, but Teds you deserve some answers. You should march right up to him and demand to know," Lily declared and I looked at her incredulously.
"Lils, when have I ever marched up to anyone for anything?"
"You march up to your brothers."
"That's different. They are all scaredy cats with the incapability to do anything more than dye my hair or swap my shampoo. Those people," I said gesturing to the crowd of jocks and cheerleaders "can ruin my life."
"Yeah but you cannot be hung up on that guy forever! He cheated on you and didn't give you an explanation but you still pine after him? He cheated on you for god sakes!" Lily exclaimed looking pissed.
"Yeah but-"
"No. No buts. You deserve some explanations and you should go get them. Teds, I understand that you are not outgoing but you cannot let people trample over you!" Lily said empathetically and I could feel my eyes tearing up.
"Aww Lils," I cooed and she gave me a half smile.
"So go up!" She encouraged and I shook my head.
"I can't. Not in front of all those people," I muttered, shuddering at the idea of going up in front of the entire cafeteria to confront the beautiful boy that dumped me.
"Teds!" Lily groaned and slumped, defeated.
"I will. Just not now."
"Fine. Whatever you say."

"You can do this! Just walk right there and ring the doorbell," I muttered as I sat in my car, my head pressed against the steering wheel. I was parked outside Connor's house and was contemplating my decision to talk to him.
I was honestly not brave enough to talk to him. If I pissed him off enough, he just might make the rest of my senior year miserable. He certainly had the power to do so.
I remembered when he first asked me out. I was so shocked because I hadn't even spoken to him before. He had just walked up to me in a cafeteria and asked me out. I could see his friends watching with interest but I focused on his grey eyes, staring into mine. He looked a little nervous, which I thought was adorable and he gave me a single rose when he asked the question. I said yes and he gave me the most blindingly beautiful smile with a cute dimple in the corner. Little did I know, he would be the boy that made me stay in bed and cry all weekend.
