Annie’s POV
Josh has been acting strange lately. After my birthday last week, he starts to come over less frequently and when he does, he seems to be distracted. I wonder what is the matter. I've been trying to get him to talk about it but he clams up and shakes his head everytime. Today, we planned to go to cinema. We are going to watch the latest sci-fi movie.
I hear a knock on the door as I got ready. "It's open, Josh!" I shouted from the stairs. He comes in with Connor who is waving at their mom. "You ready, Annie?" He says. "Just a second." I fasten the necklace I got for my birthday around my neck. I grabbed my bag and we headed to the nearest bus stop.
Once we got the tickets and popcorn, we settled in our seats and waited for the movie to show. The hall was almost full. I turned to my left and see Josh twiddling his thumbs. Geez, what's with him? "Annie, did you get the Coke?" Connor whispers, the cinema was already starting to get dark. "No. Why didn't you tell me earlier?" I said in an angry whisper, a bit mad at him for disturbing my staring at Josh. "I'll get it." Josh says, clearly noticing my annoyance at Connor. He stands up with out another word and heads out to the concessionaire.
When he was safely out of sight, I ask Connor what is wrong with Josh. He shrugs and says he doesn't know. I folded my arms in frustration and sighed. The movie started by the time Josh got back. He handed Connor the Coke and settled in his seat. For the rest of the movie, he keeps quiet. Not even turning to look at us.
After the movie, while me and Connor were discussing the plot, Josh announces that he has to stop by the local library to get a book and he hurries us back first. "We'll come with you."I say.
"No, just take Connor back. He's tired." Josh says, irritated. "No, I'm not." Connor answers in confusion. Josh glares at him over my shoulders. "Why can't we com--" before I could finish, Josh snaps and says: "Just go home, alright? I'll be back in a few." and storms off in the opposite direction. I shook my head and took Connor home. We waited for almost an hour before he finally returns. No book in hand.
I looked at him and he looked back at me. Without a word, he went into the kitchen and got something out of the fridge. Connor was in his room, battling zombies on his Wii. "Josh..." I say as he appears in the living room. He looks at me but still kept his mouth shut. "Er... will you come for a walk with me?" I say, stalling, not wanting to say what was really in my mind. "Sure."
We got out through the back door and walked for a few seconds before I started to say, "I don't know what's wrong Josh and I can't read minds. You're driving me insane with the silent treatment and I really want to know what's up? You're my best friend, Josh. And best friends are supoosed to tell each other everything." I say. We don't stop walking eventhough we've reached a dead end, the little forest. He steps into the forest and I followed him. He hesitated before saying, "I'm fine, Annie. Don't worry." He turns around and smiles. The smile was so sweet, I almost believed it was genuine. "Come on, Josh. You don't expect me to believe that do you?" I rolled my eyes.He stops walking and turned to face me.
"I..I just... have this stressful project that I've not finished and I don't want to ask for your help cuz' I know I'd trouble you." He says. I tried to look into his eyes, to see if he was telling me the truth but he turned to the front and started walking again. I knew it was completely a lie. He couldn't fool me, even if he wanted to. I'm immune to his lying abilities. I sigh and followed him deeper into the forest.
