Prologue:
I walked down the dark alley, my companion by my side, our steps splashing the water and echoing against the narrow brick walls. I glanced at him and smiled, we had had a good run. I grabbed his hand and linked it, feeling his warmth mingle with mine.
We came to a door and knocked thrice; it opened and spilled a bright glow onto the harsh black of the pavement. He stood aside and motioned for me to enter; I smiled at him and entered leaving him and entering the arms of my lover. I watched as my companions smile faulted, crumbling, and sadness occupying the empty features. I almost went back to him, to tell him it would be ok, but I couldn't, this was my duty, what I wanted.
I buried my face into my lovers chest, inhaling the deep cologne he wore, trying to embrace the power within me, I knew when it worked, I heard my companion catch his breath, my lover squeeze me tight, and me fainting.
