Today was supposed to be a nice day.
I was going to go out with Dave.
We were supposed to go to that new cafe that opened up.
I'd order a light coffee and Dave would get a warm apple cider.
We would talk about our plans for the upcoming winter break.
We'd walk out hand in hand breathing out the cold, mid-December frost from the air.
I would ask him what he wants for Christmas because he always knows what I want.
He would reply nonchalantly a 'Nothing' or 'whatever you can afford'.
I'd sulk for a bit, but quickly recover with a toothy grin showing my excessive overbite.
He would smirk back.
We would've shared the red and blue striped scarf Jade knitted us last Christmas.
I'd then lead him to my house, since my dad's overseas this week.
I could've been cuddling with Dave trying to stay cosy and warm with his weight pushing me to the side.
I would say 'love you, Dave'
and he would say 'me too'.
But I didn't......
John slowly placed his cyan notebook down with a heavy sigh. It sheltered every single memory he cherished with his crimson-eyed companion. But he couldn't forgive himself for what he sees as his own fault.
He knew it was his fault getting too overly excited to see his admittedly sexy boyfriend across the street, that he ran a red light.
John tripped.
He knew he couldn't protect his lover as Dave plunged his body into the street, pushing John into the sidewalk from the current truck coming right towards the shaded man.
If he knew this was going to happen he would have brought his stupid neon blue flip-phone and called somebody ANYBODY. He would have screamed for help from the top of his lungs. He would've said 'I love you' if his voice wasn't so clogged up from the saliva in his throat. Even if he did say it, there'd be no way Dave would have heard it with the obnoxious ambulance sirens flaring madly in the background.
DAVE, WHERE IS HE?! PLEASE TELL ME HE'S ALIVE! the poor raven-haired male screamed, his heart about to break into a hundred pieces as the doctor glanced at him sorely after coming out of the ER.
The doctor slowly shook her head.
No... YOU LIAR THIS PRANK IS GOING TO FAR AND I SHOULD KNOW I'M THE PRANKING MASTER he screamed full of rage.
Moving her bleach-blonde bangs to the opposite side of her face she finally let her black coated lips tell him to go, allowing John to see the only thing he had left to grasp onto for the last time.
Quickly he ran in with tear stained eyes to see his love, but it was to late.
Dave had died.
John laid beside Dave's grave taking every scrapbook picture and written entry the two wrote and teared them slowly out of his notebook.
He then tacked them to a tree that miraculously survived the harsh Washington weather with its golden leaves sprouting from every corner of the frozen dirt enclosure where his deceased lover laid.
He then took out a small pocketknife and carved out a series of beautiful lines into the tree and in the middle laid his name and Dave's.
With chapped lips he then said his last I love you's and goodbye's before his best friends, Rose and Jade slowly took John's hands and led him back home.
While walking home, gradually their tear spilled faces turned into smiling faces full of dried tears.
"I love you too, John"
He briskly looked back at his grave.
John swore he heard this from Dave's grave and for a split second he thought he saw Dave wave at him.
So just in case, he waved back and smiled knowing Dave'll be his guardian angel.
