The next morning, Hunter forced himself to go for a run to calm his needs for Jacota Jones. Heat had started for him, and it was a lot different from last year. Now, he felt a desire for someone. The only person in his thoughts was the God of lightning.

Jacota was washing in the shower when Hunter entered the bedroom, sweaty and out of breath. Jacota's scent in his room was so irresistible; the werewolf bit his tongue to stop himself from entering the bathroom and kissing him until their brains mushed. Instead, he waited for what felt like years until the water switched off.

Hunter paced, creaking the floorboards and occasionally stopping near the window to let the warm summer breeze dilute Jacota's scent.

When the bathroom door opened, steam poured from the crack that Jacota popped his head through, watching his mate.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

Hunter nodded with a smile.

"I am in full control."

Jacota opened the door wide and quickly walked to the chest of drawers to find a t-shirt.

Hunter's eyes followed him, generously soaking up his muscles. When he caught himself stepping closer, Hunter diverted his steps and entered the bathroom, locking the door.

"You don't have to avoid me," Jacota thought. "you um, you can kiss me if you need to."

"I'm fine, I can control it," Hunter replied and made his shower extra cold.

Jacota thought about unlocking the door with his telekinesis and being affectionate, but that was far too bold for him, and he abandoned the idea as quickly as it came. Instead, he went to find his brother who, of course, was standing in Sam's doorway.

"Hey," William smiled, ruffling his wet hair. "Have you heard? Anthony has found a bunch of people to potentially join Hunter's pack."

"That's good. Does Hunter know?"

"Yeah, did he not tell you?"

"No, he's avoiding me-"

"Because he's in heat," Sam interrupted. "Every year he locks himself away because he found it hard. I think alpha's feel it worse."

"He said he could control it."

"He can; it will be agony for him though..." Sam realised that he may have overshared, or said something wrong. "Well, agony is not the right word. And he is tough and can-"

Jacota turned and walked back down the corridor.

Sam felt like his heart hit his gut when Jacota entered his bedroom and shut the door behind him.

"Did I upset him? Did I upset Hunter? He's going to kill me, why do I never think before I speak?" Sam ran a hand through his hair, watching William shake his head.

"Don't worry about it, I'm sure Jay just wanted to ask Hunter about it. Maybe those two haven't discussed it properly, and anyway, I didn't know werewolves went into heat."

"Yeah, we do every year, like now, your scent is literally making me feel sick."

William raised an eyebrow.
