"What just happened?" Sam asked. His wolf felt an immense source of power and the feeling didn't go away, even after the pain mellowed. "Flora?"
The wise old woman could only stare at her daughter. "Is Sam your son?" she asked slowly.
Scott stood by Hunter's side. He knew something was going on. He didn't think it was this.
Margo nodded, and tears flooded her eyes. The tremble made its way to her hands as they clung to her top, subconsciously pulling at the fabric. "He's Hunter's twin brother."
Hunter heard Scott's shocked gasp as Flora slowly climbed to her feet.
For a moment, Margo thought her mother would yell, but Flora never yells.
"Hunter, get Jacota home with Bren. You have a tear to close." Flora reached her hand out to Sam, examining him with deep interest.
Sam took her hand, feeling the same blood running through their veins. "What happened to me?" he whispered, realising that Flora and Alfred are not just Hunter's grandparents, they're his too.
"Come with us," she said and guided him away from the kitchen, away from the staring eyes, away from the lies. Sam tried to grab William's hand, but he missed and was pulled into the living room.
Scott approached Will, looking a little peaky. "When did he find out? Why was this all a secret?"
"He found out today, we all did."
Scott turned to Hunter who stood in a room full of people but looked so alone. "And, why was it a secret?" he asked again, moving his gaze to Anthony who was trying to keep himself together.
"I'm not sure." William started to fidget with his walking stick, wishing he was with Sam. He could feel his mates emotions, and they were putting some strain on his heart.
Sam planted himself on the couch, wishing that William was with him, holding his hand.
Flora paced the room as fast as her old body would take her. Alfred stood as still as a statue, his feet rooted firmly against the wood, and his eyes latched onto Sam. "Tell him," he said in a voice as still as his body. "Don't think about blood relations now. Nobody has time for this."
Flora stopped in mid-step, the floor creaked underneath her. She looked like her heart had been trampled on after being ripped from her body. They have known Sam since he was at least a year old. They visited a week after Hunter was born and there was no sign or mention of Sam. Margo never told them she was having twins. Maybe her daughter wanted to keep it as a surprise. What a surprise it has been.
Alfred checked his watch. They couldn't wait any longer. "Sam," he said, sitting in front of him on the coffee table. "You've taken Flora's powers. You are now the God of wisdom."
The word wisdom echoed from ear to ear and clung to Sam's brain. "But I'm a Beta-"
"Not anymore." Flora finally found her voice. "I thought the powers would go to Hunter. I didn't know." She rested a hand on her heart. "I didn't know."
"Anthony made an Alpha oath. They couldn't tell anyone, not even Hunter." Sam was frowning, staring at his hands. He turned them over and over, feeling the power around them but not seeing it. "Wait, you're the God of wisdom?" His eyes turned big and round like the word obvious slapped him in the face.
"Not anymore. Samuel, you are the God of wisdom. I've given you my powers. You will use them to help close the tear. I was giving them to Hunter because I'm too weak, but they went to you." Flora pulled at her curls, letting it sink in that Sam was her grandchild too.
