Sorry if it seems like my updates are taking a little longer. I'm planning my next story for when this series finishes. I'm very excited about it, and it will be published the same day this book ends. Which sadly won't be very long. There are maybe 7-10 chapters left of The Golden Prodigies, maybe a little more but I don't want it to feel like I'm dragging it out! :)
- Sian
The moon peeked through Jacota's storm, staring down at the werewolves as they huddled together on the Rayson's field. The glow painted their fur. No matter the colour, the shine covered everything in a blanket of silver. It didn't matter who was an Alpha, Beta, Delta, or Omega. Every wolf was equal when they all fought on the same side.
William's skin burned like it was on fire. It pulsed around the left side of his throat, over his left collarbone, his left shoulder blade, and down his left arm. Reaching his fingertips. "What's happening to me?" he whispered to Sam. He tried to keep his composure in a field full of the supernatural.
"I'm not sure. Whatever it is, it's linked with me, and I'm almost certain that it's not harmful."
"It doesn't feel that way." The human fought against the urge to scratch. It was the only thing he could think about despite the chaos all around him.
William felt Sam's body press against his. The werewolf inspected his skin close enough for him to sense his breath.
"Hold on," Sam murmured. "It's going red. Not just red from irritation, but like... bright red." He traced his fingers down his mate's neck. The red raised like a scratch.
"It's swirling," Scott added himself into the conversation. He had hovered around his son ever since his skin started itching. "It looks like-" He stood up straight and nodded to himself. "I think I understand what's going on here."
Sam caught sight of one of the Gods and their mate who had turned into their wolf forms. The God's coat of fur had beautiful grey swirls among the white. Their mate's fur had identical blue swirls.
"The marks," he whispered.
"A God's signature."
The swirls on William's neck had an identical resemblance to the God's.
"Instead of getting marks on your fur, you're getting marks on your skin-"
"Because I don't have a wolf." William touched his arm when the red colour intensified.
"Exactly!" Sam watched the colour until it was vibrant against his pale skin. "Come into the light."
"No! He has to stay in the moonlight, so do you," Scott warned. "Your wolf is transitioning Sam. You'll feel it very soon."
The back of William's hand itched and raised as the red patterns flowed down his arm and curled around his index finger, travelling to the very tip. It looked like someone had painted him. "Is it on my face?"
"A little." Sam nudged William's head to the side. Part of a swirl had curled around the left side of his jaw and travelled along the curve of his ear, finishing on his temple. "It's pretty."
William turned and looked at his reflection in the window. The itching started to mellow as the moon found a gap in the clouds and sparkled with the stars. The red was very bright. It looked a little shimmery like it had a fine layer of glitter. "So... this is permanent?" he asked, blinking when he saw his father's eyes in the reflection and realised Jacota stood on the other side of the glass. His younger brother stared back with a raised brow.
"You have the same mark as me," Jacota mouthed and grinned. He gave William a thumbs up and moved towards the door. "That's cool."
"Is it?" William wasn't sure as he turned his arm back and forth. He could feel the itching travelling down the entirety of his left side and knew the swirls would be visible under his clothes.
