Val's POV
I kicked open the door of the Nemesis Cabin. "Karlos!" I screamed.Everyone turned towards me with identical looks of irritation. "He's not here. Go back to your pink girly cabin and leave us alone." One of them sneered.
I narrowed my eyes. "You will tell me where he is, or I will use my perfectly manicured nails to scratch your eyes out."
The entire cabin started to snicker. "An Aphrodite kid getting her nails dirty? Unheard of. Try it, we dare you." Another one taunted.
I felt tears pooling in my eyes. "Just because I'm an Aphrodite kid doesn't mean I can't get my hands dirty once in a while! I'm tired of all the prejudice around godly parents. We have mortal parents too!"
All the kids stared at me, shocked. The first kid kept laughing. "You've got brains too? Are you sure Aphrodite is your mom?"
I huffed. "100 percent. And I'm damn proud of it."
With that, I walked out. Karlos is probably hiding out in some cave. I marched into the woods, starting to get more desperate by the second.
Katie's POV
I hurried after Travis. Was he finally back to normal? The sand leaked into my shoes as I came to a halt next to Travis. He was smiling at me. Not the fake, plastic smiles he was giving to Val earlier, but a genuine smile. It warmed me up inside.
"Remember a few weeks ago, when we went to the beach together?" He said suddenly.
I rolled my eyes. "You mean when you practically carried me to the beach and dragged me into the water?"
He smirked. "You pushed me first."
I was about to respond when I suddenly remembered what was going on. "Why are you meeting me here? What do you want?"
His eyes flashed with hurt for a second before turning into a mask. "Nothing. Never mind." He started to walk away.
I panicked. What was he doing? I grabbed his arm, making him look at me. "Stoll, you can't just ask to meet me here and just walk away! Answer my questions!"
Travis rolled his eyes. "Gardner, I don't have to tell you anything." He replied coldly.
I let go of his arm, letting mine fall to my sides. "Travis..." I spoke softly. "Why have you been acting like this?"
Travis flinched, as if I had hit him. "Katie."
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Katie." He said again.
I narrowed my eyes. "Is this some sort of prank?"
"Katie. Katie. Katie." He kept repeating, walking closer to me.
I took two steps back. His eyes were unfocused, as if he was daydreaming. "Travis! Wake up!" I pleaded.
He continued to chant my name, coming closer. When he grabbed my wrist, I flinched, turning around and sprinting away from him. I need to get Chiron. Travis was getting weirder by the day.
