Chapter Seven

I stared up at the fireworks in admiration. It's the first fireworks that I have ever seen. Well, the first that I can actually remember. I've seen them in TV but not live. It is such an exhilarating sensation. The booms reverberated deep within me, making my heart beat even faster. The colors were beautiful.

Its fasinating, really, how they can make such a beautiful contraption. I wonder how they are even made but I decided it wasn't important. There was music that went along with the fireworks, making me sing along to them as I laid my head back against Callum's shoulder. He kissed my cheek and rested his chin on my shoulder.

The fireworks continued to go on and on for a while. My favorite so far was the rainbow ones that made a sizzling, crackling sound. Then something awesome happened. Four fireworks went off in a shape of a heart. Mine clenched tight when Callum pressed his lips to my head and gave me a gentle squeeze.

I grabbed Callum's hand and twined out fingers together, taking my eyes off the fireworks for a moment as I watched how perfect our hands fitted together. Our shade was pretty much the same. Though he was slightly tanner than me. I was going to work on that, eager to surpass him and be better than him in at least one way.

The finale was spectacular. They shot off hundreds of fireworks at the same time, making beautiful symphony of colors and shapes. There was nothing like it. From now on, Fourth of July would always be my favorite holiday.

When it was over, Callum kept me from standing up even though everyone else did. I glanced over at him and gave him a confused look. He just smiled and kissed my nose. "Thank you, for coming to see fireworks with me, Basia. It wouldn't have been nearly as fun without you." He picked me up, making me gasp. He held me close to him as he walked up to the car, leaving everyone else to clean up.

"Callum! We need to help!" I hissed in his ear. He chuckled and set me down in his Camaro, shut the door and then jogged over to his side. I watched as he started the car and grabbed my hand tightly, kissing my knuckles.

"Basia, I know I told you I love you. I really do and I won't regret telling you that. But you don't have to say it back, angel. Only when you're ready." He whispered. I stared at him as he took us to my apartment. I didn't respond to him the whole entire time. I just watched him. When we got to my home, I squeezed Callum's hand.

"Come up with me." I said in a hushed tone. He nodded and turned off the car. We climbed out and I held tightly on his hand when he came back by my side. Callum released his grip though and wrapped the arm around my waist and pulled me close to him. "We need to talk." I mumbled, opening the door to my apartment and lead us up to my living room. We sat on the couch but I kept a good few feet in between us, allowing him to still hold onto my hand. He had a nervous, worried expression on his face.

"What's wrong, Basia?" He asked, looking inbetween us, wondering why we were seperated. I bit my bottom lip and shifted so my legs were tucked under me.

"We need to be honest with each other, Callum. I hate liars and I hate lying." I let out a breath and his eyebrows pulled together and I could tell he was royally scared. Was Callum wondering the worst? Please don't, nothings is wrong. I wanted to comfort him like he always did for me. But I knew if I went into his arms, I'd be convinced not to tell him. "I don't know what it's like to love someone. And I don't know if I could ever love you. Not because I don't like you. I do. Alot." I rolled my eyes and let out a breath. "But I've lived my whole life, being hated on and beaten. It's something that will stick with me forever. I left my house, convinced that I could never trust someone again." Callum went to speak but I leaned forward and placed a hand over his mouth.
