Chapter Six
The car ride to where we were going to watch the fireworks was about an hour long. I rode with Callum in his black Camaro, holding his hands as he drove with one hand and ran his thumb over my knuckles. He didn't even seem to notice he was doing it. Because when I turned to give him a look, he just smiled, glanced down at our hands and then shrugged.
We listened to great music. When Call Me Maybe came on, I tuned it up and sang along to it. Callum watched me with an amused look on his face. Pulling my knees up to my chest, I hooked my free arm around my legs to hold them close to me. I laid my head back against the head rest as I sang wholeheartedly.
"You have a beautiful voice." He told me when the song ended. I arched an eyebrow and scoffed. I sucked at singing. "I'm serious." He squeezed my hand and then lifted it up to kiss my knuckles. I rolled my eyes.
When we got to the place, we walked to a spot and laid out blankets for us to sit on. Kiley sat with William-who was now officially her boyfriend-Zee sat with Luke and Nathan had his girlfriend, Rachel.
Callum put together a cooler of drinks while Kiley and Zee brought food. I settled with a water and laid flat on my back as I stared up at the darkening sky. Kiley and William sat next to me, Kiley planted on William's lap. Callum was on the other side of me, laying on his back also. Copier. He grabbed my hand and fiddled with my fingers. Again, he was doing it absentmindedly. I turned and snuggled up into his side, breathing in his scent.
"It's so nice out." I whisper as he loops an arm around my waist and lets out a moan.
"Mmm hmm." I peeked up to see he had his eyes closed. I giggled and closed my eyes also, the afternoon sun beating down on us. It felt so refreshing and the Vitamin D soaked into my pours. I knew it was too late to get tan, but I was hoping I could get one. I was too pale.
It was currently 8 o'clock and the fireworks didn't start till 9:45. So I brought my phone, planning on playing games but I found myself falling asleep on Callum. He lightly ran his fingers up and down my spine, making me shiver. So he wrapped a blanket around me. Which was completely unnecessary considering how hot it is outside.
Kiley fell asleep before I could even think of drifting into dreamland. Callum told me she was exhausted when I must of had a confused expression. I nodded and placed my head on his chest and my hand on his stomach. A stomach that wasn't even there. Instead was abs. I made me anxious; how strong he is. He could crush me in one fluid movement, without even hardly flexing.
Zee woke me up right when I fell asleep, making me jolt and Callum grasp onto me. "What? What?" I asked, completely scared. Everyone looked at me. Luke, Nathan and William raised their eyebrows in confusion.
"So that's what your voice sounds like." Nathan winked. I blushed and sunk down into Callum who let out a growl and pulled me close.
"Mackenzie, why would you wake up Basia? She just fell asleep." Callum grumbled, playing with my hair like before. I was curious as to how he knew that. But I ignored it and watched at Mackenzie chewed on her bottom lip.
"We need a girl moment." She gave me a look that told me she want us to beautify ourselves. I sighed and went to get up but Callum tugged me back down. Zee frowned and gave Callum pleading eyes.
"Callum. Let me go." I whispered so only he could hear. He stared at me for a moment before he kissed my forehead hard, as if he was saying goodbye for forever. Then he released me. I got to my feet and Mackenzie grabbed my hand, dragging me away to the bathrooms. She was carrying her purse and I knew it was filled with her makeup.
