Valentine's Day

mornings are awful, yes. but this morning was just particularly more awful than normal. when amelia woke up, she woke up to possibly the worst text message ever.

timothee <3:
happy valentine's day amelia
i love you.

it didn't seem so bad but it made her stomach turn. initially, it was because she was flattered, but once everything came back to her, she rolled her eyes. he cannot just act like everything is okay between them. he fucked up and it's simple as that.

her whole demeanor was full of annoyance as she got ready and went to school.

at school, it was even worse. it seemed like there were more couples at school if that was even possible. everyone was extra lovey-dovey around her. luckily, she hadn't seen the two people she was dreading to see yet.

when she opened her locker, an envelope and a small box of chocolates sat on top of her binders and books.

written on the envelope was her name in an oh-so familiar handwriting. timothee's. she sighed and tried to hide her frown as she stuck the two things in her backpack and headed to class.

when lunch came along, she pondered on if she should go sit with her friends, with cole, or alone. she opted out of her friends since she saw the top of a pink-dyed head earlier, knowing it was saoirse. however, the head was alone, no curly boy in sight. she also opted out of cole. she decided that yes, he was very cute, but he wasn't timothee. in this situation, she really shouldn't compare the boys since one of them did her wrong, but she couldn't help it. she just knew nobody would treat her like timothee could. she realized that cole was just a distraction and sort of revenge.

she ate in the girls bathroom that day.

at dismissal, amelia's stomach sank when she noticed that timothee wasn't there at all. he hadn't been in any of their shared classes. her first thought was wondering if he was sick or hurt; his well-being came before any drama. to avoid any confrontation though, she didn't text him but hoped he was okay.

she didn't want to go out and surround herself with couples, but she also didn't want to go home and sulk like every other single person on valentine's day.

she pulled out her phone and texted her mom.

                                                  amelia <3:
                                              are you off yet?

mommy <3:
yes, soon. why?

                                                  amelia <3:
                                             let's go on a date.

mommy <3:
okay, honey. meet me at the
italian restaurant on West.

                                                 amelia <3:
                                               okie dokie (-:

once the pair arrived and were seated, amelia's mom immediately began to converse with her daughter.

"how was school?"

"fine... how's work"

"fine...how's timmy?"

"dunno."

"sweetie, i'm your mom. i know that face. i know when you're sad."

amelia bit the inside of her cheek to prevent her from crying.
