Waking Up

By @mrandmrsjane (Twitter), Netherlands

A slight stabbing pain in his ankle woke him. His natural reflex was to reach for it and see what was wrong, but a warm object prevented that. He looked down. He smiled, the pain in his leg already forgotten. His body started tingling all over and his heart warmed inside his chest. He didn't know how long he had waited for this specific moment. Not even kissing her, or making love to her. It was having her inside his arms, the steady rhythm of her breathing against his side.

It was this that he had been waiting since a decade ago.

She stirred in his arms, sleepy eyes blinking up at him. He was met by a beautiful smile, one he'd had the honor of seeing so many times in the past twelve hours.

"It's early, my love," he whispered. He brushed her naked back, eventually including her upper arm as well. "Go back to sleep."

She scooted upwards on the bed a few inches until her lips were in reach with his. Leaving a few barely existent kisses, she fell asleep again. He couldn't believe how lucky he had turned out to be. And he had almost let this slip through his fingers.
