Always Us

Jane sits on his couch, sipping some tea from an unfamiliar cup, while I read a book at my desk.
"What are you reading?" Jane asks.
"Uh...nothing." I've always been embarrassed to tell people what I'm reading.
He sighs and gets up. He snatches the book from my hands. "Ah, I've read this one. Mind if I spoil the ending?"
"NO!"
He laughs. "You mean yes, if not that mean I can spoil?"
"What?" I ask confused. I then understand it, "Oh. Yes! I do mind!"
"Okay, I feel like spoiling, but I don't want to get you mad at me so...I won't." He smiles and sits back down.
I keep reading. I can feel Jane's eyes on my back. It makes me nervous to know that he is examining me. I flip my hair back with my hand. I then start tapping my foot against the floor.
Tap! Tap! Tap!
"That noise is, just a little, annoying," Jane says plainly making a tiny symbol with his fingers.
I stare at him. A green cup is touching his lips.
"Want to get out of here?" he asks putting the teacup on my desk.
I do. But I don't think we should, but there's not much to do so... "Let's go."
He smiles. We get up and walk towards the elevator; he leaves his teacup on a counter and we enter the elevator.
"Where are we going?" I ask.
"Somewhere peaceful."
"Like?"
"The circus."
"How is that peaceful?"
"Well...it's peaceful for me." He doesn't look at me in the eye as the elevator doors open.
We start walking to my car (he still doesn't have one). He takes my keys and enters the driver's seat. I don't complain even though I want to. I've been trying to continue not to make everything he does a big deal. But it's so hard when every single thing he does is a big deal to me!
"How did you know the circus was in town?" I ask plainly focusing on my seatbelt. I didn't want to ask out of embarrassment and fear, but letting him drive was enough, this is another thing.
"I looked it up on a computer."
"Computer?" Since when does he use a computer? How did Jane even turn it on?
"Yeah, I used Cho's. Don't tell."
I try not to smile, but I do anyways.
"Why did you look it up?" I ask.
"You wont let it go, eh?" He laughs. I blush. "I wanted to bring you to one."
"Aren't the clowns kind of creepy though?" I question.
He shrugs, "Meh."
There's a brief silence, so Jane turns on some music. It ends up being on full volume and I scream.
"Teresa Lisbon! Why the hell is your music so loud?" Jane screams making a face.
"I don't know!" I say annoyed at this dumb company car, "It always happens!"
"Well, I think my ears are dead."
The rest of the drive is plain silent, although I wish I could talk, but I don't know what to say. I still feel guilty for the music thing, even though it wasn't my fault. It just seemed like he was mad at me, and that really scared me.
