I N A R I | CHAPTER ONE |
1 | date
I AM DYING. Well, I felt like I was dying. I imagined slamming my head against the wooden table, but sadly I would look a bit crazy if I actually did that. This date was going terrible, but I smiled through it and pretended to listen to my date drone on and on with his stupid jokes. This is exactly why dating apps do not work, you get a guy that looks and acts nothing like his profile.
"So then my coworker turned around, and I scared him so bad!" He howled with laughter effectively catching the whole restaurant's attention. I decided then and there that I had enough of him and his jokes that didn't make any sense.
"You know what," I started but then realized I didn't know his name, "What was your name again?" I asked in annoyance.
"It's Dennis," he trailed off with a slight frown.
"Alright Dennis, I really have to go. My, um, grandma broke her- um -hip! Goodbye!" I exclaimed in a rush and quickly grabbed my stuff before he could question me. I grabbed my coat and purse and swiftly pulled out a twenty dollar bill and slammed it on the table with a smile. "This should cover my part of dinner." I then started to make my way to the door.
"Wait, Inari!" Dennis yelled trying to grab my attention but I was already out the door.
I called my best friend, Cheri, to come and pick me up. Dennis drove me there, so my car was at my house. I tapped my foot impatiently as I waited for Cheri to pick me up.
Cheri and I had known each other since we were both seven. She stood up to my bully and effectively scared him off with her hard glare back in second grade. Since then we have been the best of friends. I told her the address and waited a good ten minutes before I saw her Chevy convertible pull up to where I was standing. She rolled down the window and motioned for me to get in the passenger's seat. I walked around to the other side of her car and opened the door. Her red hair moved with her body as she turned to face me. Her name was Cheri for a reason, both her parents had red hair so she inherited it. Her dad thought it would be very funny if they named her Cheri, and it took a while before he got her mom to agree on that name.
Cheri opened her mouth to speak, but her brown eyes asked the question before her mouth could. "How did it go?" Cheri asked softly, afraid I would cry again. The last time I went on one of these kinds of dates, the guy ended up being a complete jerk. I ate ice cream and cried for weeks because he left me standing in the rain.
