I N A R I | CHAPTER TWO |

"PLEASE! OH PLEASE! Please, mom!" Cheri begged. The second she mentioned a party, Jessica gave her a disapproving look. Cheri always had parties when her mom wasn't at home, like when she was on vacation with her dad, who was rarely around. Whenever Cheri's dad, Zander, came home from work, maybe once a week, Jessica would always go out with him. Whether it was on a cruise or just a date, she would always go out with Zander. Otherwise, Jessica was a stay-at-home mom.

"It's just going to be a few kids! Inari was having a bad day! Do it for her!" Cheri exclaimed, using me as a scapegoat.

"Oh no, no, no. You are not using me! Sure I want to have a party-" I was cut off by Cheri.

"Small get together, actually," Cheri asserted in a know-it-all way.

"Alright, small get together, but if your mom says no, then that is it." I had an older brother and a younger sister, I've heard this stuff before and I've tried to use it as well. I knew this didn't work, you had to play the guilt card if you really wanted something.

"See? Why can't you be more like Inari? She probably doesn't bother her parents about parties," Jessica remarked but immediately, her face scrunched up as if she ate something sour. "I am so sorry Inari, It's a reflex, really." Jessica went in and hugged me tightly.

My parents were both not alive, I lived on my own in an apartment. And because my job at the Sweets Kingdom didn't pay as well as I would have liked it too, the neighborhood I lived in was definitely not the best. There was a lot of crime that always happened, like robberies and such. Sure I had an older brother and younger sister, but my sister, Cerise, lived in Maine, our hometown where our parents had died. I had no idea where my brother, Zeke, ran off to after our father's funeral.

I decided to move away from the memories because I could not take the pain, so I moved to England with Cheri. We had been here for the past four years, since we were fifteen. I just couldn't live with the terrible memories, so Cheri being the great friend she was, moved with me. Jessica and Zander had no problem moving with me since they were planning on moving anyway, and because both my parents were gone, dead and away somewhere unknown. Jessica and Zender were now my legal guardians. My brother and I didn't end on good terms anyway, we ended in a fight with a lot of yelling.

After our mom died from brain cancer, our dad just up and left without a word. It wasn't something I liked to talk about, so people often forgot my parents weren't alive or no longer with me. When my siblings and I went to our mom's funeral, my brother couldn't stand being there any longer, so he left halfway through the funeral. I was so mad at him for leaving, I told him I hated him and wished he was a better brother to me and a better son to our parents. Of course, I didn't actually mean that, but he just up and left without just like our father a word and I haven't heard from him since.
