The dorm building is amazing. Absolutely amazing.
Everyone has their own room- complete with a personal bookshelf covering almost an entire wall. There's a bookstore and library in the center of the building, along with a room designated purely for reading. It's any fangirl's paradise.
The lady in the lobby tells Trin and I that there's a collection of dorm buildings on the other side of the island that are designated for the fanboys, but that we'll have mixed genders in most of our classes.
Trin's dorm room is right across the hall from mine. After I unpack my things, I cross the hall and knock on the door to her room. I wait for a little while, but the door still doesn't open. I knock again, louder. Trin still doesn't open the door. I try the handle, but it's locked.
I wonder where she could've gotten to.
As I turn toward the other side of the hall, to my room, I notice a girl with blue hair standing in the doorway of the room beside Trin's. Her door is agape behind her, but she's staring straight at me.
I glance behind me, just to be sure that she's not looking at someone else. The hallway is empty. I feel uncomfortable because of Blue Hair, but I stiffly walk to the door of my own room. Just as I'm reaching for the handle, the she speaks.
"Is that your friend's room?" Blue Hair speaks smoothly with a cool voice that gives me the chills. I nod slowly. "Smart of her to lock her door. I would advise you to do the same." I wonder what she means, is that a warning? I feel even more unsettled. "I saw your friend leave just a few minutes ago. Probably to the library."
"Oh- okay," I stammer, "um, thanks."
Blue Hair gives me a slight nod and turns to go back into her room.
"Wait!" I say. She looks back at me, a blue eyebrow raised. "Um," I try to quickly put my thoughts into words, "Do, er, what do- uh, sorry- what did you mean about locking my door? Is there something... going on here?"
She bites her lip and her left eye twitches. I'm positive that she's debating whether or not she should tell me. Letting out a sigh, Blue Hair peers cautiously down the hallway on either side of us. The hallway is empty, as I had already observed, and she takes an itty-bitty step closer to me.
"I'm only telling you this because I like you. And you don't seem like one to spread secrets around," she tells me in a hushed, secretive tone. "There's something strange about this place. There are quite a few things I noticed when I arrived here two years ago that just seemed... off. For example, the teachers-"
She was stopped short by a door opening down the hall to our right. Before I could say anything, Blue Hair had disappeared into her room.
I could hear the click that told me she had locked her door.
