2 weeks later
Adriana's POV
I had been in and out of sleep for over a week now, just staying awake long enough for the nurses to check my vitals. I felt so weak, but the only thing keeping me going was my baby, I just had to do it for him. Since he is a preemie, he has to be watched very carefully to make sure nothing too severe is wrong with him.
It was an early sunny morning when a nurse came into my room, I didn't stir. The nurse then went over to the window in my hospital room and opened up the curtains, letting the bright sunlight shine into the room, waking me up completely. I winced and looked at her, almost annoyed, but then she said, "Wake up, sunshine! You're going to get to hold your baby today," I was confused but then overly excited. I reached for my phone and texted Ashley, he then said he'd be over as soon as possible. He used to stay at the hospital with me as late as he could, but he was looking worse than I did when it came to exhaustion. So I convinced him to go home and only come back to the hospital if I really needed him or the baby needed him.
The nurse helped me out of the bed and then I put my hair into a pony tail. By the time we were ready to make our way down to the NICU, Ashley had arrived. I walked slowly but steady, holding onto Ashley's arm the entire time, but we eventually made it to the NICU. Where the baby was, I could already feel tears welling up in my eyes, this was going to be the first time I've seen him since my first glimpse of him when he was born.
I sat down next to the incubator he was in and Ashley sat next to me. The doctor that was there, caring for him, then picked him up out of the incubator and gently placed him in my arms. I was now just in uncontrollable tears, but they were happy tears. He felt so small and light in my arms. He still had a heart monitor attached to his little chest, but besides that he seemed to be healthy. I just looked at him in complete awe, not knowing what to do or say. Minutes passed, then the doctor said to Ashley, "Would you like to hold him as well?" Ashley smiled, I could see the small tears in his eyes too, "I would love to," he said. The doctor then took the baby from my arms and placed him in Ashley's. Ashley's face was indescribable, it was a mixture of happiness and relief. I was in my own world of thoughts when my nurse spoke up and said, "Have you two thought of a name for him yet? I'm sure you'd want him to be more than just, 'Baby Boy Purdy-West'."I looked over at Ashley and he nodded his head, then I looked back to the nurse and then said, "Yes, yes we have." She smiled and grabbed the pen from above her clipboard and looked to me, "We'd like to name him Riley Purdy, no West, Purdy is the name we'd like him to have," She wrote it in on Riley's chart and then said, "No middle name?" I shook my head no, she then nodded her head and left the room to finish the paperwork.
Later that night I was back in my hospital bed, with Ashley by my side. He was holding my hand, stroking my palm softly. He then looked at me and said, "I love you so much, Adriana," I smiled back at him and started deeply into his dark brown eyes, and said, "I love you too Ashley."
OH MY GOSH GUYS I feel sooooooo freaking terrible about putting this update off for over 3 months. I've just been so super duper busy, and I was going through some things. But now hopefully I can start updating regularly again! (Yay)
Please please tell me how you like this chapter, of there are any errors i do apologize.
I need the insperation like bad!! so if you guys have any ideas or input, i would love to hear it. If you have something good, i'll be sure to mention you in that following chapter.
I need help with deciding what to do about Riley, what i should do about Cole, and how i should continue the rest of the story. SOOOOO.........
