Chapter Nineteen - Not Any Other Day in My Life

I couldn't believe my eyes as I saw Brody running towards me. We had met halfway and as soon as he wrapped his arms around me I think I melted. But of course, we couldn't just stand hugging like tha forever and eventually we stepped away from one another.

The words of apology faded away and all I could focus on was him and how terribly attractive he still looked to me. Even though he didn't seem to be taking much care of himself by the way his hair was longer than usual and how he still wore the same clothes as he did in NY. He looked hot and I really wanted to hug him and feel his warmth once again. But I knew I had some talking to do first.

"You read the book." It was the first sentence I managed to speak.

Brody looked at me curiously and a small smile appeared on his face, enough to make my world tremble.

"You mean that French book you like?" He asked me and I chuckled. Deeply. As I haven't done in a long time.

"Yes. The French book." I nodded and saw Brody staring at the ground. He looked vulnerable and hurt and I knew I was the one to blame for that. "I'm sorry." I muttered and he lifted his gaze at me for a moment.

"I'm sorry, too." He told me and I felt tears coming to my eyes.

"Why didn't you tell me the truth before? I was gone for a month!" I questioned him, feeling the ache in my heart.

Brody shook his head and closed his eyes. "Hell, I tried. I called you over a hundred times but you never answered and I assumed you were over with me. That you got tired and gave up on me." He said and slightly opened his eyes to look at me. What he saw was probably a a messed up girl with teary eyes. "Then I came here to the cabin and I guess I just blacked out for a few days before Percy showed up with the invitation to your party. It was actually sent to your mother... The invitation, I mean. But she told Percy to give it to me..."

I bit my bottom lip and stared at the ground.

Why did life have to be so damn difficult?

"So you went there and tried to explain yourself." I assumed and Brody nodded.

"I guess I knew it wouldn't work too well." He shrugged and a small smile played on his face, making me melt on the inside.

"The letter..." I started saying but he cut by taking my hand in his.

"I wrote it before I went to New York." He answered me and the mere touch of his hand on mine made me feel better than I have in a month.

"Guess you know me too well, huh?" I half-joked and Brody pulled me closer to him.

"Better than you know yourself, I'm sure." He whispered in my ear and I rested my head on his shoulder, feeling my heart speed a hundred miles per hour.
