Mare
I wake up, and for the first time in forever, I didn't dream while I slept. Well, I wasn't exactly sleeping, I was knocked out by something, by... Maven. I suddenly remember his bright blue eyes and right before he knocked me out, he promised Cal was safe. Cal. How long was Maven impersonating Cal. Maybe Cal didn't choose the crown over me. This gives me hope despite the fact that I am with Maven. I sit there processing everything from before I was knocked out to notice that I was now in Mareena Titanos' room. I would have expected Maven to put me in more of a cell. Mareena Titanos's room. The room I first stayed in when I came to The Hall of Sun. The Hall of Sun. Maven knew all about the plan, and had many guards already here most likely, or he put me here so they won't attack it if they know I'm here, or if they don't have me to do my part they can't complete their plan. There were so many things that could happen in the next few days, and I couldn't do anything about it. The non-satisfying familiar feeling of silent stone captures me weighing me down. The shackles make my ankles and wrists feel heavy as I try and walk to the bathroom. I take a quick bath with warm water. Back in the Stilts a warm water bath would have been heaven, but after the past few months in luxury homes this feels normal. Well, as normal as it could be having shackles and not being able to do anything to help my future.
Once I finish my bath I grab a towel and wrap it around me. I walk into my room to see Maven sitting on my bed. He didn't see me right away and he was staring at my sheets. When he looked up we both blushed as I was almost naked. I go to my closet and put on my pajamas again. I lean against the wall and cross my arms, trying to look as strong as I could with the shackles slowly taking away my strength.
"Where is he?" I demand staring him right in the eye. When he doesn't answer I say, "You promised he was safe, and you are a man of your word am I right?" He sighs,
"Cal is safe, and you'll see him soon enough." It should make me happy that I'll see him soon, but instead it makes me panic,
"Why am I going to see Cal," I say my voice shaking.
"Smart girl," he smiles at me. I ignore him waiting for an answer, "There will be a... search for information." Immediately Elara and Samson pop into my head and make me panic. "We'll search Cal first, but something tells me you'll know more."
"Cruel" I mutter under my breath, "can I ask you one thing before you rip my mind apart?" he nods, "How long. How long have you been impersonating Cal?" He thinks,
"When you attacked us before you went to the Samos's when you and Cal were conveniently parted. We took him away from battle, and well those wonderful new bloods you found disguised me as Cal. Oh and that plan of yours to take the Hall of Sun will be a little hard when the palace has millions of soldiers ready to fight, and oh right you're missing." He smiles at me. The same smile he gives me everytime he wins, or almost wins then I get away, or Cal gets away. This gives me hope. I have been saved every time, so why not this time. "Now Mare, since your friends are planning to attack in a day, I think it's time we get you ready to see them," Maven says and right as he says it 5 red maids come into the room and measure me.
"Where's Iris?" I ask him. He looks at me confused, "You know Iris, your wife, Lakelander princess," I finish.
"Oh her, she's off somewhere in the palace," he shrugs. We don't talk, and he eventually leaves, to my relief.
Around an hour later they leave and another maid comes in with food, lunch I think. I eat it not bothering to enjoy the taste, although palace food is the best you'll ever have. After a maid comes in to take my tray I suddenly feel myself being controlled, I didn't even realize it until I couldn't control anything, but feel what my body was doing. It was unlike every whisperer though, unlike when Samson was trying to make me and Cal battle. So this is what Maven meant by get me ready, getting me ready to stop my friends. He was there at the Samos's, he knows that they would never hurt me, or at least some of them, the Samos's would kill me in a instant. I feel the shackles being taken off of me, and the electrical sense come back, but I can't use it. The person controlling me will though. To make me either kill someone, or just stop people from hurting Maven. People watch me pass, but my electricity isn't showing, so they either know what's happening, or assume I'm going to see the king. I see the guards open the door and my body walks through and just keeps walking until I'm far from everyone, and I don't see Maven. I see a man, an older mans shape in the distance in the direction that I'm walking to. When I get closer he makes my eyes shut, stopping me from seeing where we were going. We walk for a while side by side. Once we are around a 15 minute walk from the Hall of Sun I feel them release there hold, but I still can't shake the feeling, it was different, and I've been controlled before. Once I've regained full control my eyes burst open, and sparks fly from my fingers. Not at the person, but just to show I have them.
