Baby sat on the park bench with her manicured nails tapping the tune to some new song she heard on the radio.
After Jamal broke the news to her, she realized she was better off not knowing. But she did know and now she wanted nothing more than to get away. That sadly wasn't an option for her right now.
Sure she was 21, an adult, but she couldn't leave her family. All for what, some dude she didn't wanna talk to?
That shit was bonkers.
"Stop being a pussy, Baby.." The girl muttered to herself before standing up to start walking home.
As she passed by an all too familiar house, the scent of weed and booze filled her nose.
"Ayo, Baby!"
"Shit." She silently cursed and quickly replaced her worried face with a smile as she turned toward the boy who was calling her name.
The tall brown-skinned male jogged up to the fence with a sly grin, "I ain't know you was back yet."
She nodded, "I drove down this morning."
"What you doin on this side, anyway? With that on?" He questioned in a serious tone.
Baby looked down at her black crop top and sighed, only now realizing this side of Freeridge was just crawling with Prophets. She just so happened to be talking to one right now.
"I'm just trying to get home.." She crossed her arms over her chest uncomfortably once the lawn full of Prophet men took notice in her.
He nodded and quickly pulled off his grey sweatshirt, revealing a plain green t-shirt and handed it to her.
"What are you doing?"
He pulled car keys out his back pocket and opened the gate, walking out.
"Taking you home." He answered simply.
Baby furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and glanced at the men who had grown quiet and watched the scene in front of them.
"I'm fine walking, Demarcus."
The men had broke into a fit of laughter and cocky whistles, letting out remarks.
"Government name 'n everythang!"
"Anotha baby mama Dboy?"
He only laughed and looked at Baby once more before getting into the driver seat. She was about to open the passenger door when she stopped herself.
Being seen with a Prophet on Santo territory wouldn't be good for either of them.
Instead, she put the grey hoodie on over her black shirt and bent down to the window.
"Look, I'm okay walking by myself. Ma would trip if she saw me getting dropped off by a dude this late anyways.." Baby explained.
"Baby.. you're 21."
"Okay, and you're a Prophet." She blurted out.
He chuckled and took the key out of the ignition, shaking his head.
"This is about Spooky."
And just like that, Valentina Martinez felt her insides go crazy.
"Spooky my ass," Baby scoffed, "couldn't give two shits about him."
Demarcus squinted his eyes at her, "Then get your fine ass in this car and let me take you home."
"Thanks. I still woulda been walking,"
The two laughed while they sat in the car a couple blocks down from hers. Ruby was always lurking and she didn't want him blabbering to Jamal who would then blabber to all of Freeridge.
"I'll see you around sometime, right?" Dboy asked with a smirk.
She shrugged, "Yeah, sure."
"Same digits?"
Baby nodded and stepped out the car before closing it shut.
"Goodnight, Demarcus."
The boy smiled to himself and started the car, driving back home.
Only two or three minutes passed when Baby heard the low rumble of an engine next to her and the sound of a window rolling down.
"Demarcus, I thought I said goodnight." She giggled, her head still facing forward.
"That little puto would let my princesa walk alone this late."
okurrt, i smell drama ;)
