Jeez, the shopping centre was busy. What the hell was anyone doing out shopping on a Sunday morning?
Well, I was.
I leant against the wall, waiting for them.
They'd probably bring some of their friends as well. Ah well. The only people they liked were people I adored. I watched people pass by. A couple pushing a pram. A family skipping by. An elderly lady and her friends. Two men looking at their phones. A group of teenage boys around my age, shoving each other around. As I watched, one of them pushed another right into me! I shrieked and fell against the wall very ungracefully. Damnit!
The boys merely laughed. "Good one, Keith!"
Anger ran through my head. "Oi! Knuckleheads!"
They turned around. "Yeah, sweetie?"
Disgust mixed with the anger and turned into rage. "Excuse-"
"Excuse me?!"
I turned to see Jeff standing across from the boys, arms crossed.
Oh, for the love of-
"Leave her alone!" Jeff demanded, walking over to stand next to me. I shoved him away, picking up my handbag while I was doing so.
Jeff ignored me. "Do you think it's funny to shove girls over- or anyone, for that matter?"
The big one, Randy, walked over and got up in Jeff's face. "Well, do something about it then, mophead."
Jeff winced. Mophead was an old nickname of choice for the guys who bullied him at his old school. He just refused to get his hair under control. Jeff shrunk away from Randy, just that little bit that told me he was beaten.
Jeff, you piece of-
I grabbed Jeff's hair and pulled him away from Randy. His other goons snorted and laughed. I ignored both them and Jeff's struggles as I dragged him into the store, and threw him against the wall.
"You are an idiot." I said, calmly. Jeff frowned.
"Jas, I was trying to help you. They were-"
"Jeff, you should know by now I can handle myself, and you- well, you can't fight."
"And you can?"
"I'm a girl- I fight dirty. Not cause I have to, cause its showy and I love to show off. I will always win a fight because I don't give a- damn- about fighting fairly against guys who shove others into walls. You fight too fairly."
Jeff sighed. "Thanks, Jas. Sorry. I'll see you round?"
I stared at him. "Yeah." He started to walk away, thinking I was legitimately angry at him.
Well, he wasn't wrong, but...
I kissed him as he tried to walk away. "See you later, Jeffery."
He kissed my forehead. "Bye, Jassy."
"Where the hell were you?!"
"We've been waiting for ages!"
"Did you get held up?"
I'm five minutes late and Kate, Leslie and Jane think I'm dead.
Kate is one of my oldest friends, tall, academic, pretty and a legend with sarcasm. Jane is a less academic and more internet-attuned sarcasm warrior. Leslie is one of Kate's oldest friends. They're like brother and sister. He's pretty tall, though not as tall as Kate, and a bit of a hot head.
"Where were ya?!" Leslie yelled. Kate rolled her eyes at him. "Stop being so dramatic."
Leslie sighed and crossed his arms. "I'm not the one dragging me on shopping trip!"
Kate giggled. "Yeah, well, you lost the bet."
Leslie blushed vividly. A few days ago, Jane had dared him to tell this girl in our grade- the grade above his- that he had a crush on her. Leslie- for some stupid reason- had made the odds even worse by putting a bet on with Kate. He didn't confess to the girl within three days, then Kate had to drag him on a shopping trip.
I'm making him try on heels.
Three shirts, five denim shorts, and a pair of boots later (not counting Kate's dresses, jackets, Jane's makeup factory in a bag, and Leslie's football), we all split up and went our seperate ways home.
The sunset was super pretty tonight. The clouds and sky seemed to blend with each other, creating what looked like orange and pink cream around a blazing fireball of red and orange.
I took out my phone and snapped a picture. I loved photography, not that I was extremely good at it. Smiling at my newest creation, I sent it to Jeff.
