My mum stared at her phone and sighed.

She typed out something

And deleted it.

And started... and stopped.

"Mum." I said, trying not to sound like an impatient iguana.

She stared at me, puzzled.

"Can I see?" Mum had received a text from Mrs Woods, and as brilliant as she was with technology...yeah, no. She took an hour to write a text. And she'd been repeating the same thing over and over again.

"Bad...bad, bad boys."

Make that fifty one.

"What did the boys do?!" I begged.

She sighed.

As much as I didn't want to be an impatient iguana...

I snatched the phone from mum's hand and quickly scanned the text.

Hi C!

Sadly, yesterday both the boys were found fighting with a gang at the bus stop! What should their punishment be? I'm out of ideas!

No punishment they're getting settled its not their fault.

I threw the phone on the bench. Mum muttered and sighed again. "Do not answer my texts, Jasmine." She said with her strong Chinese accent. Mum was born and raised in China, but moved over here when he father started abusing her. She went to high school here, met the Woods- Mrs Woods also happened to be from China like my mum, which is the main reason why Liu has his name.

I grimly picked up my bag. Jeff was in so much trouble at school.

"You." I said to him. "Walk. With me."

Jeff stood up, resigned to his fate. Liu, who was next to him, whistled. "Someone's in trouble!"

"You too." I yanked Liu up by his collar. He stumbled after us.

I led the boys into that one deserted area that every school has. I faced them and crossed my arms, waiting.

"What exactly happened this morning?" I was probably overrreacting a tad, but someone has to. It wasn't like I was going to give them a long lecture like their Mum undoubtedly did.

Liu leapt at the chance to talk. He was always over eager.

"So Jeff and I were just waiting for the bus. Of course, it was super late. So we were standing there, and these guys rock up and-"

"The boys from yesterday." Jeff interjected. I blinked. Really?

Liu continued. "Anyway, they rocked up and started ragging on Jeff about being sissy and a mop head and stuff like that. Jeff tried to get away, but they started punching him. I took on one and Jeff started taking on the guy named- uh-"

"Randy." Jeff said, expressionless.

"-yeah, and then it turned into this huge fight. See?" He pulled his shirt should've down to expose a huge bruise. I gasped. "Liu! Is it okay?" Liu nodded.

"Hell yeah! You should see Jeff's! It spreads right across his belly!"

I turned to Jeff. "Jeff, are you okay?"

He nodded. "It's all good, Jas."

I went back to Liu. "Then what?!"

Liu frowned. "I...got blacked out then."

"Liu!"

He retreated, hands up. "Hey, I'm okay. No problem, Jas."

"How did your mum find out then?" I asked.

Liu shrugged. "Heck if I know. I came to when the bus pulled up."

Jeff looked away.

Okay then. "Liu, I'll catch you up later."

He looked to me, then back to Jeff. "Alright. Update me, yeah bro?"

Jeff nodded. Liu disappeared around the corner.

Jeff started talking faster than I'd ever heard him talk. "Look, after they blacked Liu out, I got so angry, like, you wouldn't believe, and it got bloody. Okay? I tried not to hurt them, but this feel-"

"Yeah?" I asked him, barely louder than I whisper.

He cleared his throat. "Mums making us go to a party in the neighbourhood on Saturday."

I rested a hand on his shoulder. He leant forward into me. "I think they'll find me there."

"Do you want me to come?" I asked. He sat bolt upright, and his horrified eyes met my gaze. He looked down hurriedly. "No. No. I don't want-"

He stopped himself, and his eyes darted up to mine just as the bell rang. He parkoured around me, and ran off.

What the hecketh?!

How dare they! How dare they hurt my boyfriend!

Shaking my head, I stormed off to class.
