"Okay, you two lovebirds, break it up." Liu told us.
I sat back down on my bed. "Well, you'd better go."
"Yeah." He stared at his feet. "Better go back to the orphanage."
Oh... Jeff had killed their parents. That's right.
Jeff looked at him, somewhat sadly? "Liu..."
"You killed them."'Liu said. "Jeff, you killed them."
Jeff nodded, as if it was no big deal.
"You killed my parents...you killed them!"
Liu pulled a huge knife out of his pocket, and pointed straight at Jeff. I immediately stood between them. "Stop it!"
Liu was panting, his eyes fixed on Jeff, his hand clutching the knife so hard his knuckles were white and they were shaking.
Jeff, in contrast, casually pulled a knife already caked in old blood. He wiped it off on his hoodie, then pointed it towards Liu, hands steady.
I pushed Jeff's knife down. "Stop!"
Liu started crying, tears dripping down his face. "Jasmine, get out of the way!"
I stayed where I was. "Look, Liu, I know that you really want to get revenge right now. But if you do, Jeff will kill you. He's been on a murder rampage for a whole year!"
Jeff stared at us, standing still. "And," He said suddenly. "If I satisfy the feeling once, I'll probably take both of you out. And I'm trying not to. Put down he knife, and go home."
Liu's arm dropped a centimetre. "I..."
I sighed and stepped back. "Thank you, guys. Nice to-"
"I DON'T HAVE A HOME TO GO BACK TO!" Liu screamed, and ran towards Jeff.
Jeff stepped aside and let Liu run past him. He changed direction, and Jeff- with amazing aim- sliced the knife across Liu' arm, opening a shallow cut.
Liu cried out. "You-"
I tried to grab Liu, but he shook me off, throwing me onto the bed.
And the two Woods brothers faced each other, one shaking, crying and angry, the other calm, steady and much more experienced.
Then Liu smiled. "Right, you just made this ten times harder for yourself!" He pointed the knife at me, and looked back at Jeff.
Jeff laughed. "Haha! You really think you're going to get away from that?!" He drew his arm over his head and threw the knife at Liu, embedding it deep inside his chest.
Liu cried out once, then fell to the ground.
I was frozen, hand over my mouth.
Jeff started breathing heavily. "Right. This is my cue to leave."
He bent down and picked up Liu, knife and all, and jumped out the window he and Liu had jumped through.
I sat still.
Did...I...just...see...that?
"Look I'm sorry!" I held his head still, as I applied cream to his smile. Jeff flinched. "Is this, really necessary?"
I sighed and wrenched his head back. He winced again, and let me tell you, it was strange seeing someone full on wince without closing their eyelids even a bit.
You know, cause he didn't have any.
It was cold out, considering it was nighttime, which made it a little strange that there were no kids skateboarding.
