"I don't want to fight no more, only want to get to shore. Baby, don't slam the door tonight. We ran another off the tracks, that's time we can't get back. But we could save tomorrow if we tried." -Of A Revolution, Peace.

Daire's POV
"Lou, I'm so nervous." My heart was beating fast, and my palms were sweaty. Louis had received a call from my mom shortly after the whole rescue went down, and she was asking to see me so we could talk. Louis had assured me she had good intentions, but I wasn't so sure. After a long discussion, I had agreed to go meet her.
"Baby, I promise everything will be okay."
"But what if she tries to-"
"Daire, listen to me, okay? Nothing bad is going to happen. And you know what to do if something does go wrong, right? We talked about this."
I let out a heavy sigh. "Yeah."
We pulled into the parking lot of a fancy restaurant. Peering inside the building from the car window, I could see my mum sitting in a booth, looking around, waiting for me to walk inside. I turned to Louis, and he put a hand on the back of my neck, and pulled my face close to his. He planted a soft, gentle kiss on my forehead, then looked deeply into my eyes.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
And with that, I walked inside.
---
"Daire, I just.... I just want to apologize. For everything. For never protecting you, for hurting you, for not being there for you, for everything. I-gosh, what was I thinking?" My mom let out a frustrated sigh, pulling at her now messy hair. Just in the past 15 minutes I've been here, I've learned a lot about my mom. Like the fact that she practically pulls all her hair out when she's stressed or nervous. Or both. "I'm sorry, I can't seem to find the right words to say. I just... I just hope we can put all this behind us."
I really didn't know how to feel about any of this. Sad because my own flesh and blood was never there to protect me? Angry because she expects me to put the last 16 years of my life behind us just like that? Happy because she's willing to move on to greater things?
"Mom, I..." Those were the only words I could get out before I completely broke down. My head fell to the table as I let out heavy sobs. Everything just snapped all at once. It was like a huge weight lifted of my shoulders. I jumped to my moms side of the table and just hugged her. Needless to say, she cried with me.
"I love you mom."
