the suspense

Everyone's mouth dropped.

Taehyung catapulted himself behind Namjoon, and Jimin shoved his friend down to the floor. Jin followed suit.

Taehyung cursed himself for being so fucking loud, and cursed his heart for beating so fast. Why did he fucking come up here? The consequences were the scariest things he had seen in his life- so why couldn't he just follow the rules for once?

Jimin's hand snaked to his and gave it a little squeeze. Taehyung used his other free hand to mute his breathing.

"Jungkook, what are you doing up here?"

His voice made Taehyung's breathing shake a little. He was so fucking done if Yoongi found out.

"We were just- I mean, I was just getting some air."

"Who else is up here with you?"

"Oh! Just a few friends.. we were feeling stressed out because of exams and wanted to cool off."

Yoongi's tone of voice darkened.

"Who else is up here with you?"

Taehyung squeaked. Namjoon swore under his breath.

"Uhh.. Namjoon, Hoseok, Jin and Jimin."

"Taehyung isn't here with you?" Yoongi's voice sounded skeptical. The panic in Jungkook's voice was evident.

"He didn't want to come. He.. felt ill."

"Ill how?"

"He said his stomach hurt. He must've ate something bad at lunch."

"It's the morning."

"Uhm.. I mean, at breakfast. I'm just a little nervous, haha.." Jungkook's confidence started to crack.

"Why would you be nervous?"

"With all due respect sir, you're not the most friendly person to be around."

"Move aside."

Taehyung stiffened behind his friends. He heard Yoongi's footsteps get closer and closer, until his voice was heard.

"Hello, Mr. Min."

"Good afternoon, Mr. Min."

"Yo, teach."

There was a silence. Taehyung prayed for his imminent demise.

"What are you hiding from me? Not a single one of you has bowed." Taehyung twitched at the cold tone in his teacher's voice.

There was another silence.

"I know you're here, Taehyung. If you don't come out, you'll receive the first punishment."
