Chapter 5
I followed Jack and his white Corvette to his place on the North side of town. It was kind of funny how we had walked out to the parking lot and realized that we had parked right next to each other. This really is a small world.
About twenty minutes after we left and I had called my my mom and told her where I was going, we pulled into Jack's driveway. It was gated in and the long driveway led up to a five door garage stall. He pulled into his garage stall and I pulled up behind him, grabbing my bag and locking my car.
I stared wide-eyed up at the house. Scratch that, mansion. It had to be my house multiplied by five. It was gray and it sprawled out on a cliff that looked over Lake Burgess on the east side of the house.
"Pretty big, huh?"
I nodded my head, "I live over on East Side and I haven't seen a house this big."
"Well we have the second biggest house in town. Come inside and meet my sister Emma."
I nodded as we walked through the garage and through the entry way that opened into a gigantic kitchen. If Mom saw this, she'd shed tears. Jack lead me through some doors to the front entryway. It opened up to a grand staircase that split in half to get to the second floor of the mansion.
We walked up the staircase and down a hallway littered with doors. He stopped at one and knocked on it, I assumed it was his sisters. The door opened and when the door opened I was greeted with the Emma I knew.
"Well this is a suprise, hi Jaime!"
"Emma? Jack's your brother?!"
Jack scratched the back of his head, "You two know each other?"
Just then Sophie poked her head out from behind Emma. "Jaime what are you doing here?"
I looked up, "I'm with Jack," pointing over at him. "Jack, Sophie is my sister so that's how I know Emma.
"Well, what a coincidence," he chuckled as we all laughed. "Well Jaime let's head to my room."
Can this world get any smaller?! I smiled up at him giving my sister a hug before following Jack down to the very end of the hall way stopping to look out the big window facing the lake. It was a beautiful view but I snapped back to reality when Jack opened up his door.
"Ladies first."
I punched him in the arm before walking in hearing him chuckle behind me. The room was the size of two of my rooms put together. It had a couch and two loveseats facing a flat screen tv. On the other side was a big king size bed with two night stands on each side. A closet door on the left side and a computer desk on the opposite side of the bed.
Jack sat down on the couch and I sat on one of the love seats. We laughed and joked around and watch TV for about an hour when Jack's phone went off. He answered it and after finishing the five minute conversation with the person on the other line he let out a sigh.
"I forgot my girlfriend wanted to hang out tonight."
"Oh..."
"Yeah sorry about that."
"It's fine. I know when I've overstayed my welcome," I said standing up and grabbing my bag.
"Jaime, that's not what I meant."
"Jack don't. I shouldn't have come anyways. I got my hopes up."
I immediately slap my hand over my mouth realizing what I just said. Jack looked over at me questioningly which caused me to look down at the floor, "What do you mean by that?"
I looked up towards door and muttered "nothing" as I brushed around him , leaving his room not wanting to be in there after what I just said. Way to go Jaime! God I wanted to rip my hair out. I heard him call my name as I got to Emma's room calling Soph out and telling her we had to leave.
Jack called my name again and I knew he was coming down the hallway. I kind of grabbed my sister and dragged her down the hallways wanting to get the hell out of this house. I kept hearing Jack call my name, his footsteps becoming louder trying to catch up but I managed to get out of the house with my sister in tow and get in my car to leave.
"What was that all about?"
"I explain it to you and Mom over dinner okay Soph," I said as I pulled out of the driveway and leaving as fast as I could. "Alright, not a problem Jaime."
<~1 Hour Later~>
I sat at desk trying to get my math done. I had explained everything to my mom and Soph at dinner and it had made me lose my appetite after all of that. So here I was, trying my best but failing at getting my homework done because I couldn't focus. I decided to close my book and call Taylor. I unlocked my phone and found her in my contacts. I dialed it and after a few rings she picked up.
"Hey Jaime!"
"Hey," I sighed into the phone.
"What's wrong?"
"I made everything super awkward Tay and now I don't know what to do."
"Alright tell me everything."
After ten minutes went by I finally finished my story. "So yeah that's what happened. I don't think I can face him at school tomorrow."
"Yes you can. I'll be there if you need me."
"That means a lot," I said with a small smile.
"No big deal," she said with a laugh, "It's what best friends are for."
"Thanks Tay, I'm gonna try and get some sleep."
"Alright goodnight Jaime."
"Night Tay."
I hung up my phone and then locked it walking over to the nightstand and plugging it in. I'm so glad Jack didn't have my number. It'd be a lot easier to just ignore him. I mean I didn't want to because I really like him but in the end my heart would be broken so it'd just be best if I ignored him and eventually forget him.
I walked over to my dresser and slipped on some baggy pajama bottoms and a big tshirt. I knew it was a little early for bed but I probably wouldn't be sleeping tonight. Just when I was going to get into bed my mom called out, "Jaime, you have a visitor!"
Now who could that be at this time of night?
