Swing. Miss. Swing. Miss.
He groaned frustratingly. Axel has been swinging for hours and still hasn't hit a single ball yet.
"Loosen up Axel. Relax." Coach Brad encouraged.
"I don't get it. I can see now. What's the problem?!"
Axel snapped.
"It's probably just nerves. I sense your anxious. I know the tournament is shortly near and we must practice more than ever. As much as I want to win the championships, I won't risk any of you getting hurt in the process. We have a whole month to prepare. Take your time and relax."
Axel nodded. Coach is right. Him being anxious would make him perform poorly. Axel wanted this desperately but also he had to trust Coach Brad leadership and that he did. When he said something was going to happen, it did indeed happen. There was no reason to pressure himself.
~~~~"Are you nervous?"
"Is that even a question?"
Alyana sighed and cuddled deeper into his side.
"I work my butt off day and night, trying to improve. I can't play like I use to. Being blind has changed me. Everything seems wrong and I'm worried that won't we win. Everything I trained for would be a waste... including the surgery."
"Now Axel Rodgers, don't go saying things like that! You work harder than anyone on that team. You're truly an amazing person and that had nothing to do with you being blind. Regardless if the surgery didn't happen, I know you would give it your best and everyone would be happy at the end of the day."
Axel smiled and kissed the top of her head.
"How do you always know what to say?"
"I'm your girlfriend. It's my job to comfort you and be there when the world isn't. I love you so much."
"I love you too."
