CHAPTER THIRTEEN
( moo shu to go, part iii )By the time Clary came to join them at the training room, the blush on Alec's face was already gone and replaced by a frown as he stared at the red head. He knew that Jax told him to at least be nice to her but he still wasn't fond of Clary and undoubtedly unhappy that he had to be the one to train the new Shadowhunter since both Jace and Isabelle had gone off to the Seelie Realm.
"So, any fighting advice I need to know before I face him?" Clary asked as she tied her hair back into a ponytail. Jax was still twirling his staff around but eventually handed it over to her when she was done with her hair.
"I'm not good at advice, may I interest you in a sarcastic comment?" Jax said, causing the red head to smack him in the arm. "What? I've never gone through this kind of training before, hell, I haven't trained ever. I mostly just punch some punks in yhe street when they're asking for it. And unless you're planning on seducing Mr. Tough Guy over here, I can't help you," Jax snickered.
Clary sighed, "Oh, who am I kidding? He's totally gonna kick my ass."
Jax smiled and placed a hand on her shoulder, giving it a small pat. "I am so glad you're aware," was all that he said before he left her alone to sat on the corner of the training room.
Clary narrowed her eyes at him but went over to Alec, who was impatiently crossing his arms at her. "Looks like we're stuck with each other," Clary said with a tense smile, trying to lessen the awkwardness between them. Alec, however, didn't even bother giving her a reply and so Clary cleared her throat awkwardly before continuing on. "For what it's worth, I think your mom was too tough on you out there."
"Mothers are like that," Alec said dismissively, having no interest in the conversation. Clary has already meddled in their Shadowhunter business, the last thing he wanted was for her to get involved in his personal life too. His calculating eyes scanned her form, already figuring her weak spots and where to attack. But as much as he wants to knock her on her ass, he was supposed to be teaching her. Alec gestured at her feet. "Plant your feet wide."
Clary did as she was told, but opened her mouth once more. "Why did you let your mom say all those awful things about Izzy?" Clary asked but she sort of shrieked out the last word in surprise as Alec tried to hit her with her staff. Either it was her Shadowhunter reflexes or just out of pure luck, but she managed to block the attack with her own weapon.
"This should be interesting," Jax mumbled, staring intently at the two, as if he was watching a live soap opera.
Jax had no worries that Clary would be injured, Alec may not like her but he's seen the way Jax was so protective of her. He knew that the werewolf wouldn't want to see her hurt too badly.
