LUCAS

Hazel left about three months ago. Hazel has been gone for three months. I couldn't believe her. First she tells me that she wouldn't fight for us and then leaves for the Nigerian crown. She wouldn't know the first thing about being a queen. What's even more baffling is that she left so easily. She did it so easily! Did she even think about me at all? I would be alone without her. I am still angry with her, but I didn't think it would push her to leave. It was her fault to begin with.

It doesn't matter now she can do what she wants. I am no longer her prince and she is no longer a servant. I suppose I could just do what my parents want and select a princess to marry. It would probably be Blythe or Natalia, even though Natalia would be completely platonic. Even while looking at this gorgeous view of the sky, I couldn't enjoy it.

"You miss her, don't you?" Theo asked me. I had forgotten for a moment that he, Theresa and I had gone on a ride. We had stopped on a hill to enjoy the sunset.

"It doesn't matter she can do as she likes. No point in missing her, she made her choice. She told me herself that she had nothing here,"

"That isn't a no." Theresa said. "But you didn't have to act the way you did."

"How could I miss someone who doesn't want to put us first?"

"You refused to understand her position."Theo said. "Even though we have raised and brought Hazel into our family in reality her position has not changed. She has only known one way of life, and that's that Mother and Father's word is final. You have always lived recklessly. She has never lived that way."

"Well, it doesn't matter; she'll be the Queen of Nigeria. Well at least now I can focus on picking a bride."

My brother and sister looked at one another as they judged me. If Hazel really had such a horrible life here, she's probably incredibly happy.

"Is that something you really want? A bride? When you are nowhere near being king?" Theresa asked. She knew I still hated the idea...but it didn't matter.

I shrugged. "Well, two of them aren't bad."I readied Ace to move and head back toward the castle. "So when is the fall ball?"

"Next week I believe." Theo said. "I will have a date this time."

"Oh really? Who?'

"Isabella Dupre'"

"Oh the French princess... on her mighty pedestal."

"She's not so bad once you get to know her..."

"I'd rather not. She's an exceptional monarch...but as a woman ...I couldn't stomach it. She's too much..."

Theresa giggled. "We all know that Theo has loved Isabella, since he saw her when they were children."

"Have not."

"You kept pestering mother and father to take us back to France so you could see her." Theresa giggled.

In my mind I was done with this conversation with them. I sped up Ace's movement. "I have to go see mother and father now. They want to talk about progress with the princesses." I said to them.

"What will you say?"

"I honestly have no idea."

I stood at my parents' bedroom, hesitating to knock. I did not want to waste my time speaking with them. I despised every moment of this situation. I already knew they would act as if everything was normal. Did they miss Hazel at all? I slowly tapped on their doors and waited for a response.
