Months flew by. Winter turned to spring, then spring turned to the early months of summer. Those months were some of the most eventful of my life. Damien, Celine, the Colonel, and I all took a trip to Europe for three weeks in April. For two weeks in June we went to Thailand. In July we rented a large lake house for the week of the Fourth. It was really starting to feel like we were becoming a family.

On one particularly hot day in late July, I walked to city hall on my way to work to pay Damien a visit. To my surprise, I saw Abe sitting on the stone steps, his cap disregarded due to the heat. "Well hello dear intrepid detective!" I grinned as I approached him. A lopsided grin spread across his lips as his eyes met mine. "Iris! It's been far too long!" he cried, standing to embrace me. "Eww you're all sweaty." I teased. He laughed. "It's nearly a hundred degrees! I know it's difficult to believe, but I'm not perfect." I snorted and playfully smacked his arm.
"How are you? No more murder cases I hope?"
"No, thank God. Crime has been relatively low recently, so I'm doing quite well. What about you? Any luck with your love?"
"Yes, actually! We've been together for seven months now, and I'm the happiest I've been in years. And you? Any love interest yet?"
"You sound like the Jim twins when you ask that," I let out a laugh, "but no. Besides, I'm more of the type to just flirt with everyone, especially beautiful girls like you." He winked and I rolled my eyes. "Yep, that sounds about right."
He cleared his throat and grabbed his cap from the step. "Well, I'll let you be on your way, but don't be a stranger. Come visit me sometime! I quite enjoy your company." I smiled. "Will do. And you're welcome to stop by my house or the library anytime." I replied warmly. We embraced one last time, then turned to our separate ways.Once I was outside Damien's door, I peeked inside. I was puzzled to find a person I had never seen before sitting across from him at his desk. He glanced up and did a double take when he realized it was me. He beamed and gestured me inside. I opened the door as he stood. He leaned over the table to peck my lips. "Good morning amare." he said sweetly. He gestured to the person in the chair next to me. "Iris this is Y/N. They're gonna be the new district attorney in a few months. Y/N, this is my girlfriend Iris. She works at the library down the street."
"Which," I piped in, "clearly isn't as exciting as a district attorney, but it's something." They laughed. "I could argue that a librarian could be just as interesting. You technically get to travel between worlds for a living." I raised my eyebrows. "That.. is actually a pretty good way of putting it. But in any case, I'm sure you'll love working here once you're stationed."
They nodded. "I will! Knowing Damien I won't have too much of a hard time settling in."
I looked to the mayor. "You two already know each other?" I asked. He nodded. "We went high school and the first four years of University together." he replied. I smiled to Y/N. "A friend of his is a friend of mine. If you ever need any help, have Damien give you my number, or come by the library. I work pretty much all day." I said. They smiled gratefully. "Thank you so much Iris."
Damien leaned over and laid a kiss on my temple. "I'll come by the library to see you in an hour or so." he muttered into my ear. I gave him a quick peck on the cheek. "Alright. I'll see you then." I paused and turned to Y/N. "It was lovely meeting you." I said. "Likewise!" they replied.
My lover drew up my chin in his fingers and gently kissed my lips. "Love you." he murmured. "I love you too Ludo." I replied before heading back outside and set on my way to work.
