Two days later was halloween. My desk was covered in a mess of strewn about reports. While I was stressed and tired, I was grateful that I no longer had to deal with Mari's constant threats and the fear she brought about.
I had stayed the night in the office in order to plow through some of my work, though I had fallen asleep at my desk. But I jolted awake when my door burst open. I quickly brushed my hair out of my eyes to see Damien wearing a red and black cloak and cheap, plastic vampire teeth. "Boo!" he exclaimed. I ran a hand through my messy hair and laughed breathily. "Hullo you goofball."
He spun around like a jazzy spokesperson. "I'm Dracula! I think it suits me, no?" he said. "You look great for an undead overlord." I replied with a grin ( ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ). He laughed. "Very funny. Come on, we're heading to your house."
"What?" I asked. "I got us invitations to a party of sorts, so we need to go to your house to get you ready."
"I'm so behind.."
"Don't worry about it! We'll go through them tomorrow."
"Damieeeennn.."
"Iriiiissss!" he crossed his arms and pouted, narrowing his eyes and butting out his lip like a child. I sighed and let a small smile tug at my lips. "Oh fine you big baby, but you have to let me get some sleep." I said, standing up. He furrowed his eyebrows. "Did you stay here last night?" he asked. I nodded. "I wanted to catch up on work a bit." He frowned. "Awh Iris you can't put that stress on yourself. Of course you can rest, the party isn't until tonight anyway." he said.
We walked outside and started trekking towards my house. "By the way, you are NOT wearing that." I said, gesturing to the cloak and fake teeth. He feigned offense. "Excuse me madam, I look divine and I recall you agreeing." he said. I giggled. "I'm quite good at acting sir." I replied, giving him a playful shove. He laughed and gave me a light shove back. "Whatever you say Miss Invidia."
Once we got to my house, Damien sat down on the couch. "Rest as long as you need. I'll wake you up in a few hours." he said. I smiled. "Thank you for understanding Damien." I said. He beamed. "Trust me, I've had my fair share of late nights too." he replied. I giggled than went upstairs to take a well deserved nap.
~*~*~
Quite a while later, I finally awoke to see the sun was setting. I rubbed my eyes and grabbed my clock of the bedside table. 6:00. I stumbled out of the covers and opened my closet to find a dress to wear. When I finally found one that I felt was appropriate, I got undressed and slipped it one. It was a black, sleeveless, floor length gown, accessorized with a gold choker and matching armbands and a belt. Since the night was chilly, I grabbed a baby-pink scarf and threw it around my shoulders. Than I slipped on black flats and went downstairs to find my date.Once I was at the bottom of the staircase, I could hear Damien humming in the kitchen. I smiled and rounded the corner to see him swaying his hips and quietly humming a peppy tune. He locked eyes with me and turned crimson. "Iris!" he cried, clearly embarrassed. He opened his mouth to say something, but no sound came out as he looked me over. "Wow." he breathed. I giggled and blushed. "How do I look?" I asked. He strode over to me and smoothly slipped his hands into mine.
"Outstanding, m'lady." he replied with a grin. I linked my arm through his. "Shall we go then, Mister Mayor?" He laughed. "We shall."
