Eleven years earlier

As the house burned up in flames, little Luna struggled to free herself from her burning parents. She fell to the hot, smoldering ground and crawled to where there was less fire.

"That was a good one!" A figure slapped another one on the back, both of them laughing. Both of them soldiers.

Luna crawled toward them, toward fresh air.

"Hey guys!" one of them yelled.

The fire spread, eating every inch of the house.

Luna crawled.

"Did you hear what he just said?"

Laughter.

The smoke clogged Luna's nostrils, and a dizzying sensation swept over her.

The fire rose high into the air, licking at every surface, every wall, every scrap of clothing.

Luna tried to crawl forward, but fell over, flames biting her arms and clothes.

The soldiers let out a tremendous roar of laughter, stomping away from the burning building.

Luna wailed, hot tears stinging her face as she desperately tried to pull herself forward.

The sky emitted a belch and Luna looked up to see water falling onto the fire. The water hit her face and she stopped crying.

Around her, the fire sizzled, sputtered.

Luna put one arm forward then another, and began crawling with a new found strength she didn't know she had.

Luna crawled and crawled until she was picked up by a soldier and carried off into the military base where they decided what to do with her.
