Chapter 6 - All Eyes On Me
The ride to the party was faster than I thought it would be. It was on the far side of town, so luckily Noah and I didn't have to drive too far. However, we still had to take Noah's fancy black car. I knew absolutely nothing about cars but it wasn't exactly what I was expecting it to be. I was picturing a fancy car, with brand new technology and leather seats that made you want to stay to yourself in fear of touching anything. However, his car was normal and simple. It was the kind of car that anyone could own, and there were plenty of them out there on the roads already. His car was a sleek black and it did still look nice.
He also wasn't a dangerous driver. Of course he had the bad habits that everyone else picked up, but he was always patient on the road and would probably be the kind of person who would stop to let ducks go by that way he could help them across. I was surprised that Noah's speed was right on point. He wasn't a very speedy driver, which I much appreciated as I was a little nervous being in the car with him.
Noah had pulled up in front of a large mansion like building. I wasn't quiet sure what this building was used for but I assumed it was for parties, receptions and other events for these rich people. After parking his own car, Noah climbed out and immediately came over to my car door. I had already opened it and was currently in the process of trying to climb out. These heels were freaking me out more than anything and I was almost too scared to walk in them.
I successfully made it out of the car, and closed the door behind me. However, I still had my hand on the car, helping me stand up and support myself.
"You can take my arm," Noah smirked at me.
"I'm fine," I said as I flipped my hair that had already fallen out of my side pony tail over my shoulder. I took my hand off the hood of the car, having no choice but to walk on my own now.
Walking on my own in these heels was not the brightest idea. I soon as I took a step forward I had stumbled, almost tumbling down to the pavement. I blushed as I managed to recover myself without falling, but I lost all confidence.
"Come here," I mumbled as I grabbed onto Noah's strong arm. I could almost feel him beaming as his smile was spread from ear to ear across his face. I warned him by adding in, "don't say it."
"I was right," he chimed immediately after me warning him not to. I elbowed him in the side, but I realized it hardly even phased him I huffed as we continued walking towards the front door. The mansion looked huge from where we were standing, lots of architectural detailing was found throughout the exterior of the building. I could hear the soft music floating out through the open doors and windows, and I began to feel anxious.
I immediately felt out of place and we hadn't even gone inside yet.
"Here we go," I whispered as Noah pushed open the doors, walking in beside me.
The first thing I noticed was the bright lights shinning right on Noah and I. Well I guess it was positioned towards the door, but as we stood in the entrance I couldn't help but cringe under the spotlight.
Noah seemed to notice my discomfort and immediately pulled me aside, going behind many tables and walking along the edge of the walls.
We stayed out of the way of many of the people chatting, eventually making our way to the back of the room. I didn't recognize anyone, and I knew I was still getting glares from everyone at the party. Noah on the other hand seemed to know everyone at the party. Everyone we walked by would nod their head of say a polite hello to Noah as we walked by. We never stopped to talk, and I just continued to silently follow behind Noah as he received all the warm welcomes.
