I'm ready at dawn in my black saddle pants, riding boots and vest, topped with a shining silver riding coat and hooded cape. I pack the essentials into a leather satchel with the gemini symbol embroidered on the back of it and slip my longsword into the sheath on my belt
I grab a piece of note paper from my desk drawer and scrawl a quick message down for Sybil.
I snap my hair clip into the top of my rope braid and sling the satchel over my shoulder as I head for my bedroom doors.
Gently, I push them open, trying to make as little sound as possible. I'd like to avoid waking my father and having to sit through a lecture on "recklessness". As soon as he receives my message from Sybil, I'm going to be in enough trouble for my demand to plan my own wedding.
When my doors are opened all the way, I'm shocked to find General Franz standing directly outside them. My eyes widen in surprise and I try to think of a good explanation for all of this. Before I can do so, Franz bows low and greets me.
"Good morning, Your Majesty. Did you get any sleep last night after your trip to the library?" I almost ask him how he knew I was in the library last night, until I remember that we had run into each other in the main hall.
"Uh, yes, I did." It feels wrong to have lied to him twice in the matter of only a few hours. The correct answer to his question is, of course, no, I did not get sleep. I was too busy preparing myself for this mission.
"That's good." An exaggerated smile paints itself across his face and I wait for him to move aside so I can leave.
"Now, um, Franz, if you'll excuse me I--" I try to walk around him but he steps in front of me, once again blocking me from exiting.
"Oh, my apologies, Princess. Am I in your way?"
"No that's quite alright. If you'll just step aside and allow me to--" I attempt to move around him on the other side but he follows me. The smile on his face never falters.
"Allow you to suspiciously exit your room, in your equestrian attire with a packed bag after I overheard you in the library last night talking to Prince Castiel about an unauthorized mission?" I'm taken aback by his sudden coldness and the fact that he caught all of that last night.
"H-how did you--?"
"Your fiancee wasn't exactly discreet when on his way to the library last night. I ran into him mere moments before I did, you and he fed me an identical story to yours. When I found you afterwards and recognized his plan, I decided to stop by the library myself." I take a weary step back into my room, but Franz follows me. "Imagine my surprise when I found no one there, until I heard voices coming from a bookcase." He stares into my hazel irises, his grin long gone. "You two should really learn to be quieter when you argue."
"Franz, I can explain--"
"I'm sure you can. As soon as your father wakes up you can tell him all about how you broke curfew to rendezvous with the prince. You can also tell him about your little plan." He grabs hold of my wrist and begins leading me through the corridors towards my parents' sleeping quarters. I start to panic, unsure of what to do. Then I remember, Franz is meant to answer to me. Not the other way around.
