Chapter One

"I, Carter Moone, reject you as my mate." He said. He then proceeded to walk away with his friends. I stood there dumbfounded before I felt a single tear stream down my face.

Earlier that day...

I walked into the school just as the bell rung, I ran to my first class after switching out my books.

I had math first, my second worst subject. I sat by my best friend, Mara.

"Where were you?" she whispered,

"My alarm clock woke me up late" I lied to her, we both chuckled lightly before looking back to the front of the class, I look around and saw all my classmates. Some of them I didn't recognize but their scent was everywhere.

New pack, new competition.

I thought as I rolled my eyes. Class went by quickly before the bell rang, I grabbed my bag and walked to my second class. I walked in and sat near Matt, my guy best friend.

He sat by his mate he found a year back, he and his mate waved at me. I smiled and waved back. Mara walked in and sat beside me, along with Lily. Lily and I weren't best friends like Mara and I but we were close friends.

She waved at Mara and I. I waved back but Mara looked away. She was sometimes jealous of Lily, I didn't understand it but I got over trying to figure it out.

When the teacher started to pass out worksheets everyone groaned including me. I sat there for thirty minutes looking and studying the new pack members, none of them had green eyes which made me feel special. There were only five of the new students. Two had blonde hair the other three had black hair, although none of them really had the same haircut, but again class went by quickly and it was lunch. Mara grabbed me by the hand.

"Wait!" I said stopping while she tried to drag me to the cafeteria.

"Just come on, please." She said,still trying to pull me. She won. She had shifted early and I really stood no chance but I could try. My friends came to the table and we talked, all the girls were ethier with their mates or talking about them.

I haven't found my mate, I really don't think he'll want me anyway. The bell rung signaling it was time for fourth class.

I dumped my food and ran to my locker before I ran into the guy who sat a seat from Mara or at least I think that was him? He looked down on me with his icy blue eyes and black tousled hair.

"You can't be my mate!" he shouted trying to offend me.

Great, another jerk!

I looked at him confused as he gave me a small smirk.

"She hasn't even shifted yet!" He said mostly towards his friends and they began laughing. I thought of something that would knock his ego down a notch but it probably wouldn't damage it as much as I wanted it to.

"So, your point is? I'll be better than you when I do!" I snapped back, he clenched his fist while I smirked.

I wanted to walk away with that but he blocked me and smirked again.

"I, Carter Moone, reject you as my mate." He said, he then proceeded to walk away with his pack I assumed.

I stood there dumbfounded before I felt a single tear stream down my face. I wiped them away furiously. I was late so I had to rush to fourth class,the teacher glared at me before pointing to a seat to take.

My thoughts trailed off to Carter and my mind went to what he said about my shifting. It didn't bother me about that but I remembered him rejecting me. Why did this happen to me? A week before my birthday? No one was going to help me with my first shift besides Lily and Mara. The last bell rang and I practically ran to my car, I got in and drove home.
