Laughter and joy filled the atmosphere as the pack played outside. Pups were running around playing with each other as adult wolves talked and enjoyed the bonfire.
"Come here, darling." A sweet voice called out towards a young pup.
Smiling and laughing, a young girl ran towards her mother flinging her arms around her neck. The mother placed the young girl on her lap and began tickling her. Screams of laughter rang out as other wolves joined in with their laughter.
"Where is your brother? Your father is about to give his speech." The woman asked once she was done tickling the girl.
Shrugging, the girl replied, "He said he was going to get some more wood for the fire."
The mother furrowed her eyebrows together. "I told him I didn't like him being out there by himself, it's dangerous."
"He's fine, Mary-Anne. I'm sure William would have gone with him." Another wolf spoke up. But her words didn't calm the mother's worry for her son.
Suddenly a ferocious howl tore through the air.
The wolves stopped what they were doing and focused their gaze towards the direction the noise was coming from.
Silence.
The mother placed her daughter back on the ground and stood up. She scanned the woods looking for what may have made the sound.
Then, two small lights emerged from the trees. It didn't take long before more lights were noticed. Soon, growls filled the silence as running footsteps seemed to be getting closer.
Terrifying howls pierced through the ears of the pack members.
Finally, A group of wolves reached the pack. The first wave of wolves attacked the pack members who were closest to the trees. They didn't have time to shift.
Blood splattered over the green grass as bodies fell limply to the ground.
The young girl stood eyes-wide at the lifeless bodies laying on the ground, still. Her stomach dropped as her feet stuck to the floor.
Screams of horror rang in her ears as the pack wolves began shifting as others began running.
"I need you to run!" The young girl could hear a voice in the distance but she couldn't comprehend anything.
"E!!!" The voice sounded like it was getting closer, but she still didn't recognize it.
"E!!!"
"E!!!" A voice pulled Eden from her thoughts. Her heartbeat was thumping in her chest. She noticed she was digging her nails into the flesh of her outer thighs as she held her legs tight to her chest. She felt her cheeks were wet. Had she been crying?
She then noticed the entire floor was covered in water and she was drenched as the water soaked through her clothes.
The young girl started panicking. She had made such a mess, Alpha Vince would be so mad. Eden's lungs began to tighten as her stomach dropped.
She finally looked up and was found staring into a pair of blue eyes.
"E, it's me. It's Jace. Remember me from the hospital?" The young beta tried to calm the shivering girl but was unsuccessful.
Eden pulled away from him and trembled. Her breath was rapid as she tried to pull in as much air as she could into her lungs.
"Where is she!?" A loud voice was heard from the next room. Eden jumped at the dominance of the voice.
She imagined the look of anger on whoever that voice belonged to as soon as he saw the mess she had made. And she was going to be punished for it.
Finally, a huge figure barged through the bathroom door. Eden's eyes went wide.
Vince. She thought. She kept her gaze down, not wanting to anger him any more.
"What happened?" The voice sounded frantic.
The figure rushed over. He crouched down in front of Eden, reaching his hand out to comfort her. But Eden jerked her arm away before he made any contact. His eyebrows furrowed together as the pain became visible in his eyes.
It was then Eden began to panic more. Her breathing was out of control.
"What is wrong with her! What did you do?" The figure's voice was now enraged. He looked to his beta with a murderous look in his eyes. "I swear if you touched her-"
"Taylon!" A softer voice was heard from behind the two boys. A more feminine voice. "Can't you see you're frightening her?"
Doctor Lesley pushed her way through the two boys, crouching down where Taylon once was.
"E, it's okay." The doctor spoke softly.
Eden was holding her her legs tight to her chest, keeping her eyes down to avoid making any eye contact.
"No one here is going to hurt you, I promise." Doctor Lesley held a certain tone that made Eden feel safer. "All I need you to do for me is breathe. In and out, in and out."
Eden did as the doctor told her. She began slowing her breathing and started to calm down.
"You are both high-ranked wolves who have backed her into a corner. The power radiating off you is intimidating the poor girl. You need to step back." The doctor spoke to the young men through her mind. They immediately took a step back.
"There you go. You're okay, you're safe now." The young doctor smiled as she soothed the young girl.
Eden began to lift her head as a smile crept across her face. Her vision then focused on the men behind the doctor, in particular, Taylon. She jerked back at the sight of him, knowing how powerful he really was. Her breathing began to pick up again, her heart started to race.
"Alpha, I need you to leave right now." The doctor ordered.
"I'm not leaving her side," Taylon replied back.
Eden's eyes began to prick with tears as flashbacks from Waterside Pack crept into her mind. The beatings, the torcher, the man who stole her innocence all came flooding back. She couldn't hold back anymore as her tears streamed down her face.
"Alpha, you need to leave right now! Go."
Pain filled Taylon's eyes as he watched his mate tremble at the sight of him.
"Come on, Taylon." Jace tried to pull the young man out of the room, but he didn't budge. Taylon stood staring at his mate, before letting out a long sigh. He sprinted out from the room leaving his mate behind.
