A/N: This one was soooooo fun to write I hope y'all enjoy it eeeee <3
It hadn't taken long for Reef to get to Kovu. It was mostly thanks to his wealthy girlfriend, that happened to buy him a new motorcycle for his 18th birthday. He quickly pulled up to Kovu, hopping off his bike.
"A-Are you okay?! What the hell happened?!" He asked, staring a Kovu's shirt and tie. His tie was tattered and his shirt had been ripped.
"I'm just tired can w—."
"This is why I call you an idiot. You're not fine so don't say you are. Please tell me what happened.." Reef asked softly. Kovu let out a soft and unhappy sigh.
"I went to visit someone.. Don't worry. I worked and now it's over.." Kovu sadly smiled. He was visibly shaking and there were stains of dried green-tinted tears down his cheeks. Reef stared Kovu right in the eyes. Kovu stared back harshly for a moment before he looked away in discomfort.
"I'll... Tell you when we get to your house... Please let's just go." Kovu muttered, climbing onto Reef's motorcycle. He seemed to flinch violently after sitting down. Reef sighed quickly hopping on the bike.
As soon as Kovu entered Reef's home, he felt immediately targeted.
"Sit down." Reef said, pointing to the couch. Kovu felt his hands form into defensive fists as he sat down in front of Reef.
"What. Happened?" Reef hissed.
"I went to wor—."
"Do you think I'm an imbecile? I've known you for twelve fuckin' years and you still think I don't know when something's up?" Reef cut Kovu off. Kovu gave off a piteous chuckle.
"If I told you... You'd kick me out.. And my father probably wouldn't let me inside my own house at this hour.." He whispered. Suddenly, he felt his hands being pulled up and surrounded by warmth.
"I'd never do that to you. Kovu, please?" Reef gently held Kovu's hands in his. Kovu looked away from Reef as a bright pink color dusted his cheeks.
"Well.... You know how it's sometimes hard for my parents to pay off Tea's hospital bills?" Kovu murmured, his hands feeling sweatier than usual.
"Yeah?" Reef followed softly.
"Well, I... Decided to get another job. On top of the restaurant. To help out with the bills...." Kovu whispered.
"Yeeees~? And what about it?" Reef asked.
"Well... I kinda..." Kovu froze. "Look, I'm too tired for this I... I can't."
"Kovu please don't do this. Are you in danger? Do you need help?" Reef asked, tightly holding Kovu's hands.
"N-No! I'm fine! I should just take a shower and this'll be all over!" Kovu blinked.
"Nothing's over until you tell me what's going on." Reef hissed suddenly.
"You're so goddamn stubborn.." Kovu groaned.
"Comes with the package." Reef chuckled. "Just please tell me. You know I could never kick my best friend out."
"Well... I go to this guy's place and.. They... I exchange... Sexual favors for... Money." Kovu said softly. "Because... I.. I don't want to see my mother struggle..."
Reef's eyes widened. He searched for words as he stared down at his friend's pale hands.
"S-So," He stared, almost choking on his own words. "You just... Go over there and... let some chick ride you or s—."
"It's a guy. They're all guys." Kovu seemed to snap at Reef. "It... gets kinda hard to sit down afterward."
"Do you... want that?" Reef muttered.
"It's not my... most favorable choice but it's only temporary. I... I started after I saw my mom come home from the hospital crying. She... Didn't know how she was going to pay the bills and... Dad's no help..." Kovu said. Reef's warm hands were the only thing keeping him from bursting into tears.
"Where does she think you get the money?" Reef asked. "You still have your other job right?"
"Yeah totally. She just thinks I'm out late cleaning up behind everyone and getting additional money from Turf Wars. I guess Mom doesn't know how little Turf War actually provides if you're not a profreshional." Kovu seemed to smile at his mother's constant naïve setting.
"Kovu... Why do you do this to yourself? I... It's gross and—."
"It's all I got left, Reef." Kovu interrupted. "If it keeps my mother and my sister happy, I'll do it."
"I-It's not all you have left! Kovu you have me! I'm here for you! You're my best friend!" Reef gripped at Kovu's hands, a few tears slipping out of his eyes.
"Best friend huh?" Kovu muttered, slowly getting up from the couch. "I'm gonna shower. Don't think about this too much."
Kovu began walking towards the hallway, starting to unbutton his tattered, white, button-up shirt in the process. He heard heavy footsteps come from off the couch and behind him. However, before Kovu could turn around, he felt two arms tightly embrace him from behind.
"Stop acting like nothing's wrong! You're struggling and you know it more than I do!" Reef yelled, holding onto Kovu tightly. Kovu felt his heart skip a beat as he felt the urge to melt into the hug.
Reef wrapped his arms around Kovu's torso.
Tighter.
"Please just tell me when you have problems! I've been here for you since we were little squids!"
More.
Reef rested his head on Kovu's shoulder, a few more blue-tinted tears dripping slowly from his eyes.
Please more.
"Please Kovu... I'm here for you. Because I—."
Kovu's eyes widened as his heart started racing.
"—m your best friend..."
Kovu's eyes slowly closed. He took a shaky sigh.
'That's right... He has a girlfriend...' Kovu thought, opening his eyes halfway. He felt himself grow even more tired than before. Kovu gently shoved Reef off him.
"I know you are, Reef." Kovu smiled sadly, continuing to walk towards the bathroom. "Let me just have some space for a bit. That's all."
Reef stared at Kovu silently. Kovu silently went into the bathroom, grabbing a spare towel and washcloth from the linen closet. He silently ran himself a bath, his lips tightly pressed together in a mixture of disappointment and bitterness. Kovu at first had intended to shower in his best friend's bathroom, however, a bath was much needed after the previous conversation. Kovu stared around the bathroom, his mind tired of thinking. However, a specific towel caught his attention. Of course, it was Reef's. Kovu gently touched the light blue towel and washcloth. They were still damp from the shower Reef had taken prior to Kovu's call. Kovu's heart raced at the thought of his heart-throb of a best friend's naked body hitting the hot shower.
'Oh Reef..' He thought, sniffing the towel softly. He loved even the scent of his best friend. However, he suddenly gained the urge to cry. Tears quickly welled up in his eyes as he let the towel fall from his hands.
"Why can't I have you...?" Kovu whispered, his hands balling into fists. He quietly turned off the faucet, taking off his clothes and gently sliding into the bath.
