Tucker woke up in a dorm room and he sat up. "What the..? Where am I?" He got off the bed and looked around. This was not what he expected when he had awoken. He was half expecting a strict, guarded room, not a cozy college dorm. He noticed that the two sides of the room were decorated differently, too. One was all fantasy, with dragon riders and mythological creatures, like a regular college nerd. The other side was classy, almost fancy, with a Victorian feel to it. The difference between the two was astounding, but surprisingly fit together in a strange way.
He heard a door open and he turned around. Valark walked in, wearing a school uniform, yawning, fixing his messy dark grey hair. His horns and pointed ears poked out of the mess, giving him a strange, yet intriguing look. Valark looked up at Tucker and grinned, putting a hand on his hip. "Oh, finally awake? That's good."
"Where...Where am I?" Tucker asked, confused. He looked out of the window. It was so strange. When Valark said he would be taken some place, a school wasn't what he had in mind.
Valark stepped up next to him. "Pretty cool, huh? This is actually one of the safest facilities in the United States, except military bases of course. This is called the Tryson Academy for Gifted Students. The founder, Chase Tryson, made this academy for his niece, who had the power to shapeshift into an animal. It's an incredible school."
"I've...Never heard of it..." Tucker said slowly as he continued to look out the window onto the campus. It was a large school, with lots of people walking about. Some of the students had various animal parts poking out of their hair and clothes, like Valark's horns. Some had tails, some had wings and others looked like other regular humans. They were all wearing the school uniform that Valark was wearing as well.
Valark looked over his shoulder. "Pretty cool, huh? You're one of the few humans here."
Tucker looked at him. "There are other humans here?"
"Oh yeah!" Valark placed a hand on Tucker's shoulder. "Anyone can attend this school, it's just really hard to get in for humans. People like me can get in without a problem, but humans have to take an entrance exam and they have to get above, like, an eighty or something like that. It's really hard to get in, but people manage."
"Does that mean I have to take an exam?" Tucker wrung his wrist nervously. He felt he wasn't the best at school despite his good grades, and without anything to study, there's no way he could get into the school. Valark's laugh made him confused.
"No way, man! You're a Tamer! You get in without an exam. You're needed and we have to protect you. However, you have to take a skills test and a physical exam." He crossed his arms and smirked. "If you get high enough, you can even join me in my class."
"What class is that...?" Tucker was nervous. Valark was at a completely different level, there was no way he could succeed and join his new friend.
Valark gave a huge smile, closing his eyes, his fangs glinting in the sunlight. "The Flying Club of course! Since you're a Tamer, you'll get in super easy, but you have to take a different course first. You can't go straight into the Flying Club, you have to be asked. It's quite the honor." He looked out at the campus again. "It's really a great school...You'll like it. I promise." A loud bell resounded throughout the academy. "That's my queue! See you later!" He opened up the window. "Go to the main office and they'll set you up. Ask for a lady called Myth Rider." He jumped out the window and his wings appeared, slowing his fall down to a glide. Once his feet hit the ground, he ran off to his class.
Tucker walked down the dormitory halls, looking for the main office. Embarrassment rose inside his chest, for he felt his clothes made him stick out. He was still wearing his drawstring pajama pants and a white undershirt, which he stole from the dorm. He didn't have any uniform, or clothes in general, to change into since he left so abruptly last night. Tucker groaned. "Of course I forgot my suitcase on my bed...How could I have been so stupid?"
