The next few weeks were the same as usual, with the exception of the new student. The new ice bird, who was named Tarak, was nervous and scared around everyone except for Tucker and Skellor, since he had already met them so this left the two to train him.
"Okay..." Tucker said with a deep breath, wiping ice off of his shirt. "Let's try this again..." He gently took Tarak's wrist and pointed his hand at the target. "Try aiming there, okay?"
The new student held his breath and light blue and white ice magic shot from his fingertips, but it didn't go towards the direction of the target. Instead, it exploded everywhere else, including on all over Tucker and Skellor.
Tucker sighed and brushed off the ice and Skellor, who was in his dragon form, shook his black, shimmering scales clean. "I don't get it..." Tucker said in a defeated voice. "When we faced him, he was able to attack us directly, but now he can't aim at all!"
Skellor looked at the student. "...Maybe we should attack him."
"What?" Tucker looked at his partner with a bewildered expression. "We are not attacking a new student!"
"Why not? I attacked you when you were new." He smirked at his comment but quickly returned to a serious demeanor. "Anyways, you said he fought well under attack, which is true. Maybe he only performs well under pressure."
Tucker looked at Tarak, who was looking around blankly. "That may be true...But why would we want to do something like that to him? He's already scared of everyone else; why would we want him to be afraid of us too?"
Skellor shrugged and watched their new classmate. "We could just say it's a drill." He rolled on his back lazily. "But you can do what you want."
Tucker frowned and sat down. "I don't know what to do!"
"Don't know what to do about what?"
The two jumped and looked over where the voice came from. It was their teacher Myth Rider, riding on top of Terrace. "What's the problem, you two? You're supposed to be teaching Tarak how to control his magic, not lying around." She looked directly at Skellor when she added the last comment.
Skellor sat up. "We can't teach him. He isn't learning through our tactics."
She frowned. "Then find a different tactic." She kicked lightly under Terrace's wings with her heels and took flight.
Tucker sighed softly. "Not even she was very much help..."
"Since when is she ever any help?" Skellor snarled, getting up. He looked over at Tarak, who was freezing everything around him. "We gotta stop him before he causes a mini ice age."
Tucker slowly got to his feet and watched the ice bird for a little while. "...I know what's wrong."
Skellor snorted in confusion and looked at him. "What do you mean?"
Tucker pointed at Tarak's hand, whose palm was pointed at the target. "His palm is facing the target, but ice is coming from his fingers."
Skellor stared at his hand for a minute. "...Oh my god, we're idiots."
Tucker smacked his forehead with the base of his palm. "The biggest..." He walked over and repositioned Tarak's hand, watching as he hit the target in the center each time he shot. Tucker came back to his dragon friend. "We're so stupid."
Skellor nodded. "Agreed..." He knelt down and Tucker climbed on, looking at Tarak. "Change into your animal form. Let's take a fly."
Tarak obeyed and glided next to Tucker. "So...What does this school do anyways...?"
