Chapter One
GERMANY, BERLIN: AFTER THE BOMB
"Maya!" shouted a tall curly brown haired boy named Venenburg."get over here!"
A short, frizzy red haired girl walks into the room. Venenburg sees his sister and walks over to her.
"I need you to find all the food you can in the city." he said his brown blood shot eyes searching Maya's.
Maya couldn't help but notice that the spark in his eyes that had once lit up his face was now replaced with a cold glare. Making him look more like a soldier than a seventeen year old boy.
"Okay, I'll get going" said Maya walking out of their makeshift tent that looked like a giant blanket fort for children, but what was now called home.
"Sir, can I go with her?" asked a tall, honey colored boy, with shaggy dark brown curls.
"No, Hendrick we need all the men we can find." said Venenburg traces of anger laced in his voice.
"Sir I can not and will not let her go out there alone. And I will go with or without your permission." said Hendrick glaring at Venenburg.
"You've fallen in love with her, haven't you?" asked Venenburg with every ounce of venom he could put into it.
"Yes" was all Hendrick had to say.
Venenburg walked over to the other boy and knotted his fist in his shirt and dragged him off his feet. Up close you could see the bags under his eyes. And the damp trails of which he had cried before. But who could blame him? Maya was all he had left. She was the only reason he was still putting up a fight. And here this boy thinks he's good enough for her. And it's hurting to see.
"VENENBURG!!!!!!! PUT HIM DOWN!" screamed Maya walking into the main part of the tent, watching the horrific scene in front of her.
Venenburg slowly released Hendrick, letting him hit the floor with a bang.
Maya ran over to him and wrapped her small arms around him.
"Maya get your hands off of that piece of-
"SHUT THE F*** UP!! JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE HIM DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN JUST KILL HIM!!" screamed Maya looking at her brother as if he was a live wire.
"Maya-
"Now leave." said Maya softly
"Ple-
"NOW!!" screamed Maya
"Just go." said a tall, long brown haired girl with a thick layer of freckles covering her face walking into the tent because she heard Maya screaming.
"Mellony-
"Didn't you hear me?!" said Mellony "LEAVE!!" she suddenly shouted.
Venenburg got up and left without another word. Leaving Maya and Mellony sitting on the floor around Hendrick.
