Chapter 7

Chapter Seven

BAT'S STORY

Lucas, Lucy, and Seth finally arrived at the base bone tired and hungry.

"Bat!! Where are you?" asked Lucas walking into the base's front door. Seth and Lucy stay back for a bit.

"Is this an old library?" he asked.

"Yep.. well it used to be."

Seth moved his mouth into an "o"

"Yep. Um I want you to meet someone." she said as she grabbed Seth's hand and led him into the library.

"Who?"

"You'll see." she said with mischievous smile.

They walked into the room and Lucy walked right into somebody.

"Bat!!" she screeched wrapping her thin arms around his waist in a bear hug.

"Hey little L." he said using her old nickname against her.

" Who's this?" asked Bat looking behind Lucy at Seth.

"Oh. Um this is Seth Mark um he's my b.o.y.f.r.i.e.n.d" she pulled out the last word.

"Hmmm." said Bat staring at Seth as if he were a tiny rat "Nice to meet you, Seth." he said reaching out his hand for Seth to shake. Seth shook his hand.

"Nice to meet you too, Bat." he said weighing the last word.

"Awkward." said Lucy under her breath. "Come here." she said grabbing Seth's hand and lead him into another room.

Lucy stopped abruptly making Seth run right into her.

"What?" he asked

"I wanted to tell you something before you talk to Bat."

"What?" he said looking down at Lucy as he bit his bottom lip.

"You might want to sit down for this." she said walking to the other side of the room and sat down on a red velvet couch.

"Come sit down." she said patting the space next to her.

Seth walked over to her and sat down on the couch trying to get comfortable, and then when he did he looked over at Lucy.

"So are you gonna tell me or what?" he asked nervously.

"Bat may seem really cold and mean but after this you won't think that."

"Continue." he muttered.

"Well Bat used to live in Germany, before they waged war with us. Do you know why they waged war with us?" she asked.

"Yes. We kept intervening in what the ruler was doing."

Lucy nodded and kept telling him Bat's story.

" Well he used to work for said ruler. He found the ruler to be a kind man at first, but truth was under that too sweet smile was the face of a man who would wipe off anyone off the face of the earth that was different from him and his followers. One day he walked down to the basement and seen the rulers own children hanging from their hands and feet, completely naked and covered in their own blood. When he asked them who did this to them they told him their father did it to them. He left afterwards, and that night he unlocked the door of the basement and let them leave. He was later hung to the same wall bound by his hands and feet that they were. He was whipped more than twenty times a day. The ruler Nans would burn and skin most of his skin off until it scabbed over and he would repeat. Until one night Nans was done and decided to slit his throat, and he did just that, but Bat was strong and he survived." the second she was done and Seth looked at her he could see the pain and the tears that were about to be shed and wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her to his chest and held her until she stopped crying.

"Everything is going to be alright." he cooed to her soothingly and started to hum a soft lullaby in her ear until she fell asleep in his arms. He found himself quickly drifting off in to the magical world of nightmare less sleep.
