Luke sighed, not knowing exactly how to break the news to Daisy that she would be coming home with him.
He wasn't stupid - he knew that she wasn't going to want to go. It was going to be really taxing and overall just a shitty experience for her, and he hated it. But there was nothing he could do except delay it and put it off until the last possible minute, which wasn't good for anyone. He had work to do, songs to write, people that counted on him and his band. One of those people now being Daisy Jane.
The reality had sunken in a while ago that he was a parent now. And although she wasn't technically his, he still had all of the responsibilities that he would even if she was his own. He had new expenses to cover, more responsibility, more people to care for, and a ton of other things that weighed on his broad shoulders.
But most of all? He almost didn't want to go back.
Being alone in the beautiful home he hardly ever stayed in with the little girl he cherished was a bit of a relief for Luke. Of course he wished it could be under different circumstances (everyone did) but he made the most of what he had while he had it. He'd grown so used to the lazy mornings and the pancake breakfast and evening cuddles after dinner as they watched a movie. For once his life was quiet. It was just him, his little angel, and the ocean. There were no nosey reporters, no unsolicited pictures, no fans, just contentment. Even with the hard days, he still found a reason that it was peaceful.
But now that was all coming to an end.
"Luke?" Calum asked, pulling the boy out of his trance. "You okay?"
"Yeah," he muttered, clearing his throat. "I'm just... I'm thinking about Daisy, is all."
"Everything is in order, right?" The bassist asked. "She has all of her documents sorted? And her passport?"
"Yeah, yeah. She has all of that. It's just that it's going to be hard on her, and I don't know if either of us are ready for that. I mean, I don't even have my own place, you know? She doesn't have anything set up for her in America. No friends, no family, nothing. I'm... Maybe it wouldn't hurt to keep her here for a little while longer?"
Calum sighed, knowing exactly what Luke was doing. He was making up excuses (although valid as they may have seemed) so he didn't have to do something. He'd been doing that same trick since they were all kids.
"You know what she does have, though, Luke?"
"What?"
"She has you." Calum said encouragingly. "You're all she wants or needs right now. As long as you're there, with her, she'll be perfectly fine. She's young, Luke. She'll adjust easily."
"...Promise?"
"Promise."
Sighing, Luke nodded, giving into the fact that his best friend was right. It would be hard at first, but at the end of the day, she would be fine. On breaks from working and touring they could come back to Luke's barely touched house, and LA was a lot like Sydney anyways. She would be fine.
He hoped.
"When do we leave?"
"The boys and I are leaving later this week. You and Daisy, however, will fly out on Tuesday morning. This will give us time to sort something out for the little tyke's sleeping arrangements at yours and Mike's place."
It wasn't much of a reprieve, but Luke would take what he could get at the moment.
"Thanks, man," The blond smiled. "You and the boys have been so supportive in this time. You're the best."
"I know, I know," Cal chuckled. "But seriously. If you need anything else, just call, okay? She's always got three babysitters on deck and ready to help whenever you need it."
Luke smiled and nodded, well aware of that last fact. The boys of 5 Seconds of Summer would do anything to help one other out, especially now that there was a child involved.
It was safe to say all of their paternal instincts have kicked in (Michael's being the strongest out of the remaining 3, seeing as he's going to being living with them). Luke already knew that next to him, Daisy was going to be closest to Michael.
"Yeah, I know. Thanks, man."
"You're welcome." Cal smiled. "Alright, I'm going to head out now. Catch you later?"
"For sure. Bye, Cal."
"Bye, Luke."
And with that, Calum turned around, and began walking away. But something made him stop, and turn around.
"Luke?"
"Yeah?"
"Send Daisy my love. And please tell her soon."
Luke nodded one last time at his friend, giving a short: "I will." as his response.
Now all he had to do was actually do it.
