"We need to find Brent Wilder." I rolled my eyes as I saw Mr.Conner, the head of the Star company, talked to his colleagues. Everyone wanted to find him. That's not even his name now. The picture he had on the projector was Brent Wilder years ago. It was hard seeing threw the opening of the air ducts.
Now he goes by the name of Marcus Black, but they didn't know that or needed to know.
I began crawling backwards the way I came in which was by the air ducts. These things couldn't be any bigger. Would it kill them to take in mind that someday someone will have to spy on people?
I passed another opening and could see the man dressed in suits leave the conference room. I kept crawling till I got to the bathrooms. I looked twice before climbing out of the air duct.
I changed into my other disguise. I put my brown hair into a pony tail. I put on skinny jeans and a T-shirt of some made up newspaper company. I placed the other cloth in my bag. The snobby receptionist didn't question as why I was here to interview the workers so she let me in.
I walked out of the bathroom heading into the lobby. I kept walking till I reached the door walking out into the hot summer air.
My phone started ringing. Luke's picture was on the screen. I slid my finger on the screen answering it. I placed the phone to my ear.
"Hey, Luke." I said before being dragged into a dark alleyway. I just want to have a day when I won't be pulled like a doll.
I placed the phone on my shoulder holding it with my ear before hitting whoever was pulling me. He screamed in pain. I could now see who it was. The man was supporting himself on the wall. I had never seen him in my life.
"Dawn, who was that?" Luke asked still on the line.
"Oh...nothing I just passed umm a television shop. They had the boxing channel...yeah."
"Oh okay. Are-" I tuned him out as I saw the man stand up. He now stood in front of me.
"Who are you?" I asked placing my hand on the phone.
"Where's Marcus Black?" He said angry not bothering to answer my question.
"Like I know." I said. If I could have a dollar for every time someone said his name I would be rich.
"Don't make this hard." He said looking behind me. I followed his gaze and three more man were standing a few feet away from me.
"I already told you that I don't know where he is. Now, I don't want to have to be late to see my boyfriend because of y'all. It's your fault can't keep an eye on Marcus. That is not my problem." I waited for his respond. None of his men or him said anything. He was thinking about it and it was taking him some time too. Time I didn't have for him.
"I am going have to put you on hold." I finally took my hand off the phone. Luke was still talking about something he did yesterday.
"Wait did you even listen to what I said? Dawn, don't do it ag-" I placed the phone in my back pocket.
I jumped on top of the dumpster and kept running and jumping unto the next one. I got to the end of the alley and threw down some bags of trash making them fall onto the ground giving me time to get ahead of them.
"Don't lose her." One of them yelled. I begin to take of the pony tail as I ran. I made a turn running into people and apologizing to them.
I ran into a thrift shop scaring the women at the register. I grabbed the closest cloth to me.
"Where is the back exit!?" I asked and she just pointed to the back room. I placed a twenty dollar bill on the counter. I felt bad for almost giving her a heart attack.
"Keep the change!" I yelled as I exited the thrift shop. The exit took me to the back of the building. I gasped for air. I looked at the clothes I had grabbed. A denim jacket and a white shirt. In this hot weather?! I am not the luckiest person to thrift shop blind. I put them on anyways.
I walked out of the alley and walked normal. Now I can go to see Luke.
"Luke!" I exclaimed taking my phone out of my back pocket. He had hanged up. Great all thanks to them. Speaking of the men they were coming full speed towards my direction. I kept walking calmly. They didn't even bother to look at me as they passed.
I walked till I reached a small cafe. I could see Luke inside from the window.
"Sorry I am late." I sat down in front of him.
"You look like you just ran a marathon?" He eyed me.
"You don't even know half of it." I said and he laughed. He didn't even questioned it because he probably thought I was joking.
"I ordered for you since you took awhile." He said looking over at me.
"Thanks, I wouldn't have been late if it wasn't for these.....dogs chasing me." I couldn't tell him men were chasing me. It would blow my cover.
"Again?" He asked.
"Yeah." I smiled taking a drink of my coke.
