I was having a weird dream. I dreamt I was a human and I fell in love with a human prince. But I was woken up abruptly when my blanket was pulled off.

"Manaphy!" I yelled.

"But Princess Topaz you're going to be late," he said.

"Late for what?" I groaned laying back down.

"Don't you know what today is?" Manaphy asked.

I then realized what he meant, "That's today?!" I swam straight over to my mirror and looked at myself. Boy was I a mess this morning. My hip-length golden hair was all tangled. My bright pink scales were in desperate need of a shining. My eyes were perfect, as always, blue as a Kyogre. I changed my seashells into my dress seashells. I picked up my brush and started going through my hair.

When I finished brushing my hair, Manaphy said, "Let me put your hair in the royal bun." I sighed and let him do my hair. As he did my hair, I started to shine my scales.

When my hair and my tail were done, Manaphy said, "Now we must do your clothes and nails Princess Topaz."

"Ugh," I complained. I reluctantly let him continue the torture. My lipstick as red as a Magikarp, blush as pink as a Luvdisc, and my nails as blue as a Froakie. Manaphy opened one of my drawers and started pulling out various jewelry.

"Is this all really necessary?" I asked.

"Topaz!" he exclaimed, "whatever do you mean?"

"I mean to get all dressed up for such a silly event," I said.

"It is not a silly event," Manaphy said as he put my jewelry on me, "I'll have you know that this mermaid tradition has been passed down for thousands of years! When a princess turns seventeen and a half her parents gather the finest of merman royalty and let her pick one to be her husband."

"Ew!" I said, "and if I don't choose one?"

"Then your parents will choose one for you and you will be married immediately," Manaphy said putting the last piece of jewelry on me, "but if you choose one yourself you'll have time to get to know him before you're married."

"WHAT!?" I yelled.

"Now for the finishing touch," Manaphy said, "your tiara." He put the tiara on top of my head. It was just a silver tiara, that's what all the princesses get. Now time to swim to my doom.
