One week after the invasion on New York...
The Avengers sat around a large table on the 40th floor of Stark Tower, now seemingly the new Avengers headquarters. They were all angled toward a screen that had lowered from the ceiling, Tony stood in front of it ready to give some sort of speech.
"Stark. Why are we here? Some of us have better things to be doing rather than-"
Tony interrupted Steve, "Doing what Cap?" He paused waiting for an answer, but Steve just sat silently. "No honestly, I'm intrigued. What does a 90-something do for fun now a days? I'm sure we have one of those magazines with the fun little crosswords lying around somewhere if this is too tasking for you."
"No I'm fine Tony. Thanks though." Steve elected to sit out of the discussion for a while, already frustrated at Tony's terrible sense of humour.
Tony had already moved his attention to the others in the room, all of the Avengers were present accept Thor, who was no doubt dealing with his golden-horned, self-righteous sibling. "Okay boys and girls, sorry to drag you away from your vacays but turns out the teacher's setting us one last assignment before schools out."
He saw the lack of amusement on their faces at his joke and decided to push it further. "Out of interest Romanoff, how far did you get before we called you back? Lisbon? Sydney?"
"Istanbul." She replied sternly. It had taken her a matter of days to cross several borders undetected and she was already setting up for an undercover op when Tony's nagging voice had broken the peace.
"Wow, okay. Are we that unbearable? Saying that, Weatherman and his lightning stick did travel to a completely different realm didn't he?"
Clint brought his forehead down with a thud onto the table in front of him. "Hurry. Up." He thumped his head against the table with each word, amusing Bruce who was sat directly opposite him.
"Really Banner? I thought someone with your intelligence wouldn't appreciate such childish behaviour." Tony tried to sound authoritative but realised how hypocritical he was being. "Anyway, enough games. The whole 'aliens in New York saga' was 4 days ago and the guys at SHIELD have been watching back any captured cell footage for potential issues. You know, breathing Chitauris, anything we missed basically."
"How's that our problem?" Banner asked, praying he'd have just one week without hulking out again.
"Well. Turns out the city has a fair few vigilantes we didn't have on our radar." Tony tapped the screen and the big screen split into at least 12 smaller ones, each a paused video.
Tony clicked the first one and it enlarged and began to play. A small boy no older that 13 approached a Chitauri, he opened his mouth and let out a shrill scream that caused the crowds in the video to wince and scream in pain as they covered their ears, and the Chitauri to fall to the ground. The boy moved closer to its shaking body and repeated the scream directly into its ear, causing it to convulse violently and then suddenly stop. Lifeless. He looked around quickly at the crowds around him, spotting the several cameras focused in his direction before scrambling around the corner of the nearest building.
Tony paused the video. "That's just one of 17 people that were spotted joining in. And that's just the ones we've found so far. This kid, along with everyone else, is being tracked to see what else they can do."
