It had been a further three days since Nick had brought Natasha back to the Helicarrier. She had had a surgery to remove her tonsils to try to open up her windpipe, a ventilator to supply her with oxygen, and had been sedated to ensure she didn't freak out or try to leave the medical wing unexpectedly.
She had also been placed on suicide watch as a precaution, but this was not made apparent to Clint or anyone else outside of the medical team other than Fury.
Clint had arrived an hour after the others, being allowed unlimited access to her room after she was out of surgery. Nick had explained what had happened, Clint not having any sort of supernatural experience. They'd also discussed the awkward conversation they'd have to have with Natasha once she woke up about the whole 'self-inflicted pain' thing.
Clint was getting impatient over the wait to speak to his friend and approached a young female doctor who was entering the room. "Excuse me, how long does she have to be sedated for? It's been almost three days."
"I was actually just coming in to tell you. We're ready to take her off the ventilator, we'll also stop the sedation medication so she should be conscious within the next few hours." The doctor gave him a reassuring smile.
He returned the gesture and stepped out of the room, allowing her to remove the machine helping Natasha to breathe. He couldn't remember the last time she had gotten into a state like this, of course he was aware of the resurrection incident, but he wasn't actually there for that.
He found himself lost in thoughts over what he was going to say to her once she was awake, so lost that it came as a surprise when the doctor seemed to emerge within seconds of entering the room. Clint looked to the clock on the wall and saw that it had in fact been 15 minutes, he noticed the doctor stood tentatively by the door waiting for him to look over.
He stood and walked in her direction, raising an eyebrow as if to ask a question.
"She seems to be breathing fine on her own, she'll make a full recovery in the next week. You should speak to her, she might be able to hear you." The doctor smiled and walked away from the room, leaving Clint to re-enter. He took a deep breath before pushing the door slightly, allowing one foot to cross into the room before quickly retracting it in fear.
He leant against the wall next to the door and looked to the ceiling briefly in an attempt to control his emotions. For the past three days he'd been internally battling with him self over whether to tell any of the other Avengers about what was happening. Sure Natasha didn't want them to know, but in the beginning they weren't even sure if she was going to make it.
Of all the team, Clint wanted to tell Steve the most. He knew that she had a stronger bond with him over the others, and he'd be a voice of reason in this situation. Clint even knew he was on the Helicarrier at the present moment, making it even more easy for Steve to 'accidently hear what had happened from eavesdropping on a conversation'.
Screw it. He thought, taking out his cell. They had a separate signal network for the Helicarrier and so he could make calls as high in the sky as he wanted. He flicked to Steve's name in his contacts and hit 'call', lifting the phone quickly to his ear.
He momentarily reconsidered telling Steve, but that was overruled as he answered within the second ring. "Hey Barton, everything okay?" He asked, calm as anything.
"Hey Cap, can you come down to medical? I need to tell you something."
"Yeah, sure. What's happened? Are you hurt?" The calm tone had a hint of nervousness now.
