Chapter 2 || an old face

"Did you like my gift?" His raspy and horse voice filled my ear. My heart felt like it was going to leap out of my stomach. Isn't he in prison?

"Aren't you supposed to be in prison?"

"Aren't you supposed to be at home?" He asked me. I heard him chuckle a little which made me sigh.

I bit my lip, thinking of what to say next.

"What gift?"

I heard him breath on the other end of the line. "The one I left you in your room. It's on your dresser if you didn't see it yet."

"I'm not at home. Actually I'm on vacation."

"So that's why your house is so dark." He commented. "Where are you?"

"On vacation with my cousin. What exactly are you doing in my house?"

"I was looking for you. I wanted to ask you a question."

"Oh." I said awkwardly. Does he remember the last time we seen each other? He put his hands on me!

"I miss you." He said after a while of silence. My heart stopped and I felt like crying. Why does he make me feel this way? Why can't he just disappear and leave me alone? I hated how I felt towards him, even after what we've been through.

"I-I miss you too."

I heard him release a nervous breath on the other end of the line. "I need to see you. Where are you?"

I heard a knock from the glass behind me. I turned and saw Lux and Flame behind me through the glass. Lux was pointing to her purse as she and Flame got up. It was time to go.

"I have to go." I announced to him. I heard him sigh angrily. "Fine. I'll see you later."

"Yeah..." I said as I watched Lux happily walk out the door with Flame right on her tail.

"I love you." He said so clearly. I gasped and turned away from Lux and Flame so they wouldn't see my blushing face. Did Jason really just say he love me? Did this fool really just say that? Over the phone? God damn, I felt like walking in the busy street and get hit by a bus.

"Yeah, love you too." I hurried and took the phone away from my ear and ended the call. I felt so weirded out right now.

"Was that your mother calling again? Seriously, you're almost eighteen, she doesn't need to be checking on you every hour!" Lux rolled her eyes. I bit my lip to keep myself from laughing. She thought that was my mom.

"Yeah, you're right." I agreed with her. Well, she was right.

"Let's go to a strip club!" Flame suddenly suggested. Lux and I made a face at him. "That's fucking disturbing!" Lux hit Flame with her purse in his stomach. He didn't flinch or move a muscle. "I was just making a suggestion, damn." He chuckled.

"We could go to The Diamond." Lux nodded. "What's that?" I asked as I followed them as they started walking down the street. It was a quarter to nine and the building lights were shining so brightly.

"It's a club. A good one not many people go to. There was a new club that opened two months ago so the majority of people go there now. Diamond is where Flame's crew hangs out anyway. Some of my college friends be there too."

"Oh cool." I smiled. Actually I was nervous. Flame's crew and Lux's college friends? This is going to be interesting.

About ten minutes later of walking, we finally reached The Diamond. The place looked intimidating. It was dark around the entrance and no street lights were around. If we didn't walk in and see all the people here and the music blasting, I would have thought thats this place was abandoned.

"Who's this li- Shay?" I heard a familiar voice say. The person walked out of the darkness and into the light in front of us.

"Derek?"

"What are you doing here?" He cracked a smile. Derek graduated with Justin and I. Jason and Jessica didn't.

"I'm here with my cousin Lux. I didn't know you were coming to New York."

"Yeah, it was kind of last minute but my grandmother wanted me to come. She lives here."

"So you two know each other?" Lux asked as she joined in the conversation. Flame went over to a group of boys playing pool.

I nodded, "We graduated with each other." Derek nodded at that.

"Hm, small world. Well I'll leave you two to reunite." She winked at me and walked over to a table where a boy was sitting. He got up and kissed her. Well, I didn't know that she had a boyfriend.

"So, how are you?" He asked as we sat at a table close by Lux and her lover. I looked back to Derek and payed attention to him. "Never better actually."

"That's good." He smiled "How's my cousin?"

"He's great. I skyped with him earlier. It sucks that we're not together for the summer."

"I'm sure he'll visit you. How long are you here for? I'm leaving in two weeks."

"Until the middle of July. I'm spending my birthday here."

"Shay!" I turned around to see Flame waving me over. "Come meet the crew! You too Bieber!" Flame smirked. My heart almost dropped. I didn't know Derek's last name was Bieber too. But he is Justin's cousin, I thought. Derek and I walked over to Flame's crew together. There were about four other boys around Flame. Each one of them were staring right at me. Or are they checking me out? I bet Jason could take all of them down.

Stop thinking about him! You have Justin now!

Well not really.

"Shay this is my crew. My crew, this is Shay. She's taken so don't even think about it." Since when am I taken? Oh well, I'm kind of grateful that he said that so maybe none of them could try to ask me out. Or rape me.

"Who's she taken by?" One of them asked. He had dark aura to him. He wore all black, some of his hair covered his face, and he stayed behind the other three boys.

"She's taken by-" Flame started to say but Derek cut him off. "Me." Derek wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer. I licked my lips and looked down. This brought back so many memories.

"Umm...hi Jason." I smiled. Jason smiled at me and turned around towards Justin.

"What are you doing around my girlfriend?" Girlfriend?

"Girlfriend?" Justin asked, looking at me confused. I gave him the same face also. I hope he caught on to it.

"Jason what-" He cut me off, "It's ok babe, I know you didn't want people to know, but I just couldn't help it." Ok this boy is something...

Derek pulled my out of my thoughts as he walked me back to the table. "Sorry, you looked uncomfortable so I brought you back over here." I took a deep breath and sat down at the table with him. "Um, thanks." He nodded, understanding.

For the rest of the night we just talked about what we were planning on doing for the meantime. When Lux and Flame were ready to go, Derek and I exchanged numbers. I knew he wanted to talk to me more about Jessica and Jason.
