Heart to Heart

Shadow's P.O.V

"Here's how this version works." Explained Sonic. "The loser gets a truth or dare question by the winner."

"Why do we always do truth or dare questions?" asked Silver.

"So things can get spicy...."

"We'll leave it at that, Sonic. Let's start the game!"

The console had been set up by Tails and Rouge. The two-player mode had been set, and Amy was currently playing against Knuckles. The echidna had almost no sense of rhythm, and kept tripping over his own feet, while Amy steadily kept the beat. Once the lively song was over, Amy had gained full stars, while poor Knuckles had one measly star.

"Ok, Knuckles. Truth or Dare?"

Shadow waited, hoping that the echidna would choose dare. That girl was evil when it came to this type of thing.

"...Dare?"

"Call your sister, and sing 'Barbie Girl' to her, and say, 'I love people in bikinis' afterwards."

Knuckles turned white. His older sister had a sweet personality, but hated being mocked. Knuckles was dead if she got mad.

Punching in her number, Knuckles hesitated. "Please, Amy... I'm seriously gonna be murdered."

"DO IT!"

The phone was answered after two rings.

"Tikal? Can you hear me?" Knuckles cringed quietly.

"Yes, Knuckles. What do you need?" Her voice floated out of the speakers, soft and musical.

Knuckles burst into song. After several seconds of shocked silence after the tune ended, he added, "I like people in bikinis..."

Beep.

Tikal disconnected, which made Knuckles gasp for air. "I'M STILL ALIVE!"

The laughter that had been held back during the performance now resurfaced. Sonic rolled around, laughing his butt off, while Shadow just smirked. Rouge had videotaped the entire thing, and was now tapping furiously on her phone.

Wiping his eyes, Sonic choked out, "Let's continue this thing."

Time skip...

After several agonizing dares, which included Tails eating mustard and Blaze dropped from the roof, it was Sonic and Rouge. Ironically, Rouge chose to dance to 'Let it Go', which consisted of slow, graceful movements. As Elsa, Sonic desperately tried his best to get all the movements correctly, but Rouge beat him by only a couple points.

Sighing in defeat, the blue hero knew she would give him hell no matter what.

"Truth or Dare, Big Blue?"

"Dare. I got this."

Rouge giggled. He would kill her for sure.

"Go into Amy's closet, and make out with whoever you pull from this bag." She shook a plastic bag with everyone's names in it.

Sonic groaned. "Rouge. You've got to be kidding me."

"Nope. Hurry up!"

Picking through the bag, Sonic stopped at one. Pulling it out, it read Tails.

Showing everyone the paper, Sonic threw it out. "I'm not doing that to my little bro. I'll pick again."

Rouge rolled her eyes, but held out the bag again. Shuffling through the bag, Sonic pulled another slip out. Shadow.

"Well, it's Shadow again..."

"No. This time, no." Shadow tore the slip out of Sonic's hand, and shredded it. "No more."

"Hmph. Sonic lost to me, so he has to do it." Rouge crossed her arms, but then backed away after Shadow glared at her. "Okay, okay! Don't go into the closet! Just KISS!"

Without thinking, Sonic leaned in and kissed Shadow sweetly. After a moment's hesitation, Shadow succumbed, and kissed back. This time, it was a soft, gentle touch, unlike the passionate fury of the last. Sonic's hands trailed up to Shadow's back fins, and rubbed them in a circular motion. Then, both were thrown into the closet, with the lights off, and a click was heard.

"Thank you, Silver." Could be heard from outside the dark space, from Knuckles. "Now, we don't have to watch them eat each other's faces."

Standing quickly, Shadow tried to open the doors. Locked. "You bastards."

Heavily, he sat down next to Sonic, who immediately encircled his arms around him.

"Faker, what are you- " He was cut off as a gasp flew out. Sonic was rubbing his ears, making them droop down.

"Doesn't that feel so relaxing?" Sonic murmured. "My mom used to do that with me."

Memories flashed as the dark hedgehog faintly recalled a blonde girl slowly massaging his then tiny ears. Doesn't that feel so nice?

Nostalgia for his childhood surfaced, but all was pushed away when Sonic started rubbing his belly.

"This so so strange, faker, what are you doing?"

"I'm showing you how to unwind." Sonic paused, before risking a peck. He kissed Shadow on the lips, and was surprised to find him returning it. Smiling, Sonic pressed harder, making Shadow open his mouth for air. Sonic sat on top, slowly moving his tongue around the wet cavern. Suddenly, Shadow flipped him over onto his back, gaining dominance. Eyes full of content, he initiated another kiss. Sonic blissfully closed his eyes, as the two hedgehogs sat in the dark closet, slowly kissing.

After about another minute, Shadow paused. Sonic suddenly noticed a change in his demeanor, becoming guarded at once. Whispering urgently, Shadow motioned towards the door as he spoke. "We should break out of here. It's been awhile now."

Without waiting for an answer, Shadow slammed into the door, causing one of the hinges to become undone. Everyone looked at them.

"How was it?" Rouge asked.

"Let's be done here. I'm leaving." Shadow swiftly ran out the door, stares following the retreating black figure.

Sonic paused, before sprinting out.

"I'm leaving as well. Goodnight."
He raced off after Shadow. Is he okay?

When the black blur stopped, he laid down on his back, watching the stars in the open field. Unaware that Sonic was watching, Shadow stared up into the darkening sky.

"Maria, what should I do? I feel so strange! I have this monster clawing inside me, like it wants to be released. I feel like I need something!" As he closed his eyes, a whispery voice answered.

Shadow, remember when you were little? You once asked me what love was. Love, is a blessing, and a curse. Many people do terrible things for love. But, love is always hopeful. It is a good force, something that makes you happy. So, so happy. When you can't understand it, it hurts you. Shadow, decide. There is one who makes you feel this way already. Take the monster, and tame it.

"Maria, my sister. I've lost you! I don't want to lose him as well! I almost couldn't bear losing you. What would I do, if it happens again? I don't think I could live with myself if something happened to Sonic..." Shadow gazed back up. The stars seemed to be dancing, fluttering around like little butterflies.

"You won't." A voice tentatively rang out. Turning his head, he saw Sonic. The blue hedgehog stopped next to him, and sat down. Catching his breath, Shadow was about to shoot a stinging remark, but Sonic placed a finger over his lips.

"I never knew who you truly were. Was the coldness just a barrier?"

Silently, Shadow just nodded. Then he made up his mind.

"Sonic, I think I love you."
