Chapter Seventeen
The Baptism
We arrived to the family house around three in the morning. I was so exhausted and hadn’t noticed this was the second night in a row that I hadn’t called Ray. My phone still on silent from the photo-shoot earlier.
In somewhat of a panic I rush to my phone to check it and Ray left me four voicemails, twenty text messages and four video chat request. I was so in trouble. I call back right away ready to apologize. He picked up on the first ring before I could explain he said he was going to call me back hanging up. Now Ray never did that before. Sure I was on alert but I didn’t let it keep me from spitefully shutting off my phone and ignoring his video chat when he called on the MAC. I looked at the screen and turned over falling back to sleep and closing the lid.
Six came way to fast but I was excited for every second. We all scramble throughout the house like roaches trying to get ready. My mom and my uncle Jeff the cooks of the family cooked a huge breakfast to celebrate the WELKOMING of baby Taylor. There was everything you could imagine being served. Waffles, Pancakes with toppings, Sausages, Turkey bacon, orange juice and eggs of all styles. The Pastor scheduled to Baptize baby Taylor blessed the food and family with a prayer so amazing I couldn’t help but take in all my family. I was happy to share a house full of my family both extended and biological. I held baby Taylor in my arms finally. And my Father God was a honor and blessing I felt as I did with my other God children. She sleep peacefully in my arms just as beautiful as she could be with her fine brown hair and fair complexion. I love the feeling of babies. They are so fragile and pure. They don’t know the ways of the world and that they are born into ratchedness.
The cars arrived to the house separate from those who were driving to the church that morning. Arriving to the church which was packed with all of Darren and Darren’s girlfriend Kyla family. We all walked in being positioned in the last three rows of the church. Darren, Kyla and baby Taylor were welcomes to a stand ovation. The Pastor, a female, called the God parents to the front of the church with Kyla, Darren, and baby Taylor. Nate, and his remaining line brothers of his line as well as myself, Tiphanie-Jewel, Mylie, Salice, Autumn, and Heaven walk up as God Mother’s. A mutual frat brother of ours is took pictures of perfect timing. I couldn’t help but be teary eyed as the Pastor blesses baby Taylor with holy water in the name of the Father. Was Mama Keyshia right about having my own children because I am so connected with my God children I felt like at times they were my own?
The family, sorors and frats joyfully mingled over good food. Laughing and joking over memories leading up to the moment. I watched Kyla smiling with Taylor in her arms and this was different from the ways of the world. I was raised in a world where babies were having babies. Majority of them couldn’t afford the children they were having and majority were unhappy as well as financially unstable. This was completely different Darren and Kyla were beaming with happiness. They were both financially stable and seeming very in love. Everything seemed like right timing. I thought of Ray and reached for my phone. Nothing? I knew then Ray was going to have fit. I left my phone at the house on the charger forgetting all about it on the way out.
Lucky for me, right after the shindig Devin, Darren, Nate and I were rushing out to California for business but after this business run I was excited to start a much anticipate vacation.
