Chapter Two
Make A Wish/ The Date
“Thank you for calling Nyzhae' Inc. This is Keleka how can I help?” I answered, it has to be someone I knew calling me with my extention if they get a direct forward to my office I thought.
January 5th, 2012, I get a phone call right after a stressful conference call about budgeting and numbers. The voice was intriguing but didn’t introduce himself after I did the normal Nyzhae' Inc. greeting.
“Hi, I’m ready for that date you promised me,” the slightly matured voice confidently announced.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know who this is,” I lied, I knew exactly who it was giggling.
“Lies! You know exactly who this is but if it makes you happy. It’s your husband, baby daddy Ray Ray.”
I shook my head in bashfulness. “Ray what do you want, I’m busy with grown woman work,” I chuckled at his cockiness.
“I’m calling to collect on a promised you made me when I fifteen.”
“No abulo. No speak English,” I joked with a smile plastered across my face.
“You are beautiful when you smile,” he mentioned making me look around in the waiting room towards my secretary’s desk.
Through the glass window I saw Ray Ray with a bouquet of the signature roses I like so much especially since I can attach them to them to the thought of him. I hung up the phone flagging my secretary to let him in. She escorted Ray in, she offered my guest a beverage in which he declined. She offered to put the flowers in a vase as an excuse to left us to talk. Now is was revealed who the secret flowers came from. When my secretary closed the door, she flipped the private meeting switch on the way out and the glass steams us so no one can see in.
“Yo, that’s some cool shit. I see that in bathrooms at the hotels but never in a office,” he noticed the glass.
“Yeah I got the idea to do that from a shower at the Ritz in Miami,” I admitted.
“Cool. So I’ll be in Philly tomorrow. Will I see you there?”
“Indeed you will.”
“Good.”
“What are we doing?”
“I’m not sure let me make some calls. It will be fun though.”
“Oh surprises? I like surprises,” he winked walking out of my office jokingly.
The Date
As soon as I woke up I sent Ray Ray a text saying, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, can’t wait to see you later ;-). Have a Great Day until then, Keleka.” He didn’t answer back but I knew he’s busy.
As promised I arrived to my beloved hometown of Philadelphia. I came from New York earlier than expected so after checking into the hotel, I had some free time to visit all of my God children and extended family that were seemingly proud to see me.
I rented a car and drove through my old neighborhood in Southwest, South Philly and Delaware County. I had lunch at Bahama Breeze in King of Prussia where I used to work for Talbot’s for years. I didn’t used to enjoy doing anything up there where I had to work up there but for some reason I was happy shopping up there. It felt good going down memory lane and visiting people still working for Talbot’s on my way to H&M, Bloomies, and Neiman’s.
I was out for a perfect outfit for my night on the town with Ray Ray. I decided on a one piece, Black liatard from American Appearal, pink/black Jordan’s with a houndstooth woven scarf for a pop of texture. While driving I heard MB on the radio. I couldn’t help but smile to myself thinking what was to come. Secretly I was excited to come home and going out with Ray Ray was merely a bonus.
Around six that night I got a call from Ray Ray on my cell phone. His voice a deeper then I remembered it from yesterday. “Aye whatchu up to?” he questioned.
“Just got out the shower about to get dressed, you?”
“Okay sounds good. So what we got planned for tonight? What time will I see you?”
“I’ve never been to Dave & Buster’s. I figured you’d like that for dinner. We can play a few games. Is that cool with you?”
“Bet! I’ll have my driver pick you up in thirty, is that cool?”
“Perfect,” I lied I hadn’t even put on my make-up yet.
It’s just like a female, I got dressed as quick as I could and did my makeup in the elevator. As promised the driver arrived on time. As soon as I got in the black Escalade and the driver closes the door behind me, I was greeted by a bright smile from Ray Ray. To my surprise paparazzi were took to my city awaiting action. That was going to be a challenge when I saw the photographer lurking behind following to see where or who I would be with. At this point, it matter, I wasted no time by being shy. I sat close to Ray Ray. He was dress stylish in skinny stone washed jeans, a fitted black LA baseball cap, with a basic graphic tee that pulled in the colors of his Jordan Spizike’s.
He wasted no time before cozying up to me wrapping his arm around my shoulders. “Hay you,” I smiled back, “You look good?” I complimented.
“You always look beautiful,” he seemed bashful.
“Aww thank you, Papa.”
My calling him Papa seemed to make him glow even more. He ran his hands over his race to hide the smile. “What?” I questioned even though I had an idea of his thoughts.
“Wow?” he shook his head in disbelief, “I can’t believe you’re here?”
“Well I’m definitely here and we are going to have fun since you waited for three years to take me out, Birthday Boy!!!”
It wasn’t a long drive from 8th Market to Front and Columbus Blvd. I arranged for us to be escorted to a private dining area. We enetered through the kitchen, security met us there. Dave & Buster’s did exactly what it needed to. I made a complete fool of myself on the Dance Machine game. I watched him play a few games since I’m far from a game at all.
“Com’on over here woman let me teach you how to shoot,” Ray Ray sat on the stool and leaned in his lap, he guild my hands on the large blue gun and gently placed his hands on top of mine. He points the nose of the gun to realistic zombies jumping into the screen. He is a gamer because I won the game. From there we went to the lazer tag room. He helped me strap into my vest with a lazer glove that glowed in the pitch black. I got shoot in the first few seconds. Two hours went quick and we were gamed out. On our way out I said, “Did you have fun?”
“Yeah that was real dope?”
“So you want to take a ride?”
“Mmm, I just want to spend some time, just me and you. I want to go somewhere that we can talk,” he grabbed my hand, his eyes piercing from under his hat’s brim.
“Not a problem only thing is I want to take you shopping on South Street,” I called up a few stores that were known for exclusive clothing to assure we were on our way.
I didn’t want to cause a scene or to get mobbed so security went into each store before we could. South Street is truly it’s own little world of unique people, things, and shops. I love the shops and what’s a birthday without new things.
Ray Ray and I hit a few exclusive sneaker stores. What guy don’t like sneakers and looking good? I got Ray Ray several pair of Jordan’s. We went to the Adidas store where I got a few sweat suits. I couldn’t leave South Street without us going to Footlocker to rack up on all the hot hats and sneakers. He and I both got the Jordan Retro 7 in black and Grey. That is so couple of us to do that. From shopping we grabbed ice cream from a frozen yogert polar named Kiwi before going back to the hotel. I left around three in the morning after watching movies, laughing, and talking with the guys.
